White House Asks Media to 'Show Respect' to Bush Twins
White House Asks Media to "Show Respect" to Bush Twins
Monday, May 24, 2004
Reuters

----
The White House asked the media on Monday to "show respect" for President Bush's twin daughters as they emerge from private life as students to work for their father's re-election campaign.
There has sometimes been tension between Bush and the media over coverage of his daughters, Jenna and Barbara, especially when both of them had run-ins with the law over alcohol three years ago.
In an incident in Austin, Texas, in 2001, Barbara was sentenced to perform community service and attend an alcohol awareness class, while Jenna, who had been found with a false ID, was fine $600 and lost her driver's license for 30 days.
"We hope that the media will continue to show respect for the daughters and allow them to go about their lives... and recognize that they are the president's daughters," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.
(...)
"The daughters have ... expressed a strong interest in helping the president on his reelection. And I know that the president very much appreciates that," McClellan said.

1. Sure thing
We'll give them just as much respect as they showed Chelsea. That ought to be enough, right?

6. LOL
Bush would blow his top if they gave either of the twins even a fraction of the Tabloid blitz that Chelsea has endured.

I hope the press hammers them.

9. And Chelsea was in secondary school at the time
These are adults we are talking about now, not kids in high school. They want responsibilities? There are consequences for actions.

Oh, forgot. It's the Bush* twins we're talking about.

And if they're hitting the campaign trail for Daddy Dearest, they're fair game, just like anyone else in the political arena.

Boy, the Republicans sure like to dish it out, but they hate to take it, don't they?

So if Bush doesn't like it too damn bad. Of course free press is an alien term to Bush.

caveat: their faces should be rubbed in the fact that they did not afford the same respect to Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton.

14. The Bush girls are not "kids"--plus the article says they are
going to be doing lots of media work for their dad. Now if they choose to go before the media, then they get what they deserve. They shouldn't be able to have their cake and eat it too.

16. Wha??? White House ASKS???? (Doni's Husband)
First time they've ASKED for anything from the media vis-a-vis giving orders and threats to the right-wing bootlicker press.

Think they know the blood's in the water? You betcha. After Rush Phlegmball did that little stunt about the White House Dog (note: Chelsea was 13 at the time), they little realized what a hideous precedent they had set for themselves. Treat others as you would be treated. Hmm, that's a Christian concept, isn't it? Oh, that's right, these are the people who think that the Golden Rule is "whoever has the gold makes the rules."

Frankly, I hope the two ADULT daughters of * get all the attention they deserve: zero, except the obvious observation that they are truly their father's children: identified as the boozing, mediocre, barely competent scions of a mediocre, ideologue president no one really wanted and no one could get rid of fast enough.

28. Didn't they "anthrax" the photo editor from the Enquirer?
http://www.globalcomplexity.org/Death%20by%20Association.htm

Bob Stevens died of a mysterious case of anthrax. He worked as a photo editor for American Media, who owns the National Enquirer. The Bush family suffered immense embarrassment at the hands of the Enquire when they published a photo of daughter Jenna, obviously drunk, cigarette in hand, cavorting on the floor with another drunken female. Stevens was the first person in 25 years in the US to die of the inhaled form of anthrax. This was a very high-grade military anthrax traced back to a Pentagon lab.

39. The scumbags who spread filthy lies about McCain's

40. Howard Stern was talking this morning
about what a ridiculous double standard this is. He said Bush can interfere with people's privacy and propose a Constitutional amendment against gays and also interfere with stem cell research, then he has the nerve to tell the media not to talk about them when they are adults who are going to campaign for him?

He also said he would talk about the Bush daughters everyday, but they are too boring to talk about.
