So this is "Clinton fatigue???"
Edited on Mon May-24-04 04:26 PM by KansDem
Remember during Campaign2000, the GOP/media whores' mantra was "Clinton fatigue?" Well, is this what "Clinton fatigue" looks like?:

Scroll down to very last link and click on "360-degree panorama view: Allen Fieldhouse during Clinton's speech." It takes a little practice with your mouse but well worth the effort.

Remember, this is Bill Clinton 3 1/2 years after leaving office in a GOP-friendly part of the country...

2. Lawrence Kansas is far from GOP friendly
Unless it's changed since I went to school there. Granted, it is a tiny liberal Oasis in the desert of GOP crap that is Kansas.

6. GOP gerrymandered Kansas to split Lawrence...
and the 3rd congressional district of Dennis Moore (D). Now Iowa Street divides the 3rd district with the 2nd district of Jim Ryun (R).

http://www.ljworld.com/section/redistricting/story/86380

West Lawrence is booming with a new high school (Free State High) and many suburban home owners who work in Johnson County (Remember the move to put in a bypass around south Lawrence for busy commuters who live in west Lawrence and work in Johnson County and don't want to go through (icky) east Lawrence???)

One hopes Lawrence will stay liberal but with GOP gerrymandering and a booming suburb west of Lawrence for those who work in crowded Johnson County but want the "small town" feel that Lawrence offers, it may be more difficult to maintain its "liberal oasis" status.

(It's ironic that the Lied Center is in the 2nd congressional district whereas the Allen Field House is just across Iowa Street in the 3rd district).

8. Gawd, that's sad
West Lawrence was just starting to gain steam as I was graduating and I could tell it was turning in to Johnson County II (I was raised in Johnson County BTW). I guess it's also ironic that "Clinton Lake" is now in the conservative district.

3. Clinton- the great concliatator?
Man you should read his remarks:

"...He acknowledged that compromise with other nations often sacrificed Americans' freedom of action but said that at some point, America needed to realize, "You cannot kill, occupy or imprison all of your potential adversaries. You have to make a deal; that's what politics is. That's why compromise is honorable, not dishonorable."

During his 44-minute lecture, Clinton did not mention President Bush's name or criticize his handling of the war in Iraq.

Instead, he criticized those who attack Bush's motives, noting that despite Clinton's own opposition to the Vietnam War, he was "very uncomfortable" with those who accused Johnson of war mongering.

"I don't think President Johnson ever wanted one person to die (in Vietnam)," Clinton said. "I don't think he ever wanted anything but what he thought was right and best for America."

Clinton said nothing undercut civil debate more than questioning a person's motives.

When Clinton noted that questions had been raised about the Unites States' role in Iraq and whether more attention should be focused on Afghanistan, many in the audience, sensing a jab at Bush, applauded.

Fearing his message wasn't getting through, Clinton raised his hand, cutting off the crowd.

"This is thinking time, not cheering time," he said.

"You should have disagreements with your leaders and with your colleagues," he said. "But when it becomes repeatedly a question of questioning people's motives -- seeing the person you disagree with as a bad person -- we are not going to get very far in forming a more perfect union."

7. If he had said otherwise...
...they would have been hollering "politicized" before he got off the podium.

He simply cannot come out strongly against the Republicans after what they did to him, since to do so is to give Rove ammo to claim that Clinton is bitter. To do it this way is to imply that the Republicans aren't playing nice when they accuse the Dems of undue attacks on Bush's policies--it's sort of reverse psychology.

But this says it all, to me: Last year, Clinton was on C-Span giving a speech and told a joke.

He said there were two dogs walking down the road and they came up to a group of kids break-dancing. One of the dogs looks at the other and says, "You know, if we did that, they'd worm us."

:spank:

10. Innately, republicans have a talent for ferreting out a person's weakness.
when they couldn't catch Clinton by conventional methods...
they preyed upon his weakness for female attention. And..
don't forget, Impeachment was a GOP goal from the day he
took office...per Newtie.
