Are Muslim Americans being persecuted?
I just heard Mr. Mayfield on CNN. This Muslim American convert was taken in as a 'material witness' because the FBI thought his fingerprints matched a partial print found in Madrid. It was found out that the FBI did a poor job of matching, as the print is really of someone else. Mayfield apparently was already under surveilance (secretly, via the Patriot Act). He spoke out against the PA, and even Wolf said that he felt that the government had gone too far in keeping people as material witnesses after 911, most of them being Muslim. They don't know how many material witnesses might still be held.

Between this and hateful language from so-called "Christian" ministers and other spokesmen makes me feel that Muslims in this country are being persecuted. What do you think?

3. I understand
I am for GLBT rights. No one should be treated like Matthew Sheperd was ever again.

2. Just look at what they publish in the papers....
...scroll down to "On the mark about intervening in Sudan"

It's just an op-ed piece, but bigoted and narrow minded about islam, and published for millions to see...

4. if you have any pro-torture repugs
in your family: point out, like I did to one yesterday, that this guy would have been a candidate for the Alan Dershowitz "ticking bomb" rationale for using torture. He was accused of being involved in the deadly Madrid bombing, of being a terrorist and would have been tortured, YET WAS COMPLETELY INNOCENT. How many guys like him are in Gitmo right now being tortured?

5. Muslims are being persecuted, certainly, at least the brown ones
What do you expect? The government has muslims under surveilance becasue they are muslims. Swarthy dark skinned men are the new satan. The media and government have scared the crap out of Americans and have averted their eyes to this racially and religiously motivated plague. Screw freedom of religion. Screw racial blindness. We have terra-ists to "rut out."

6. I think anyone not cut from their cloth

is seen as fair game, and Muslims are now in the spotlight. I haven't seen any prejudice or hatred personally, but I refuse to have meaningful conversations anymore with those that I would end up screaming at, so am not likely a good source for a poll.

I believe all should be cautious, and allow our common ideals to bind us together in a time of great, if not danger, then wariness at the least.

edit: of course I have seen prejudice and bigotry and hatred personally. What I intended to say was I no longer listen to those with these views for even a second anymore.

Sorry I wasn't more clear on that.

7. Muslims are the new "Other."
They have it worse than anyone right now. Laws dating back centuries and fundamental civil rights have been emasculated in order to better subjugate these people. They have taken the place of other minorities previously in the cross-hairs. Most Americans view them as subhuman and barbaric, and have the audacity to express their disgusting bigoted views openly.

SARCASM DISCLAIMER.

Yeah, it's pretty bad for Muslims and Arabs in this country. Thanks for the post. Keep it kicked!
