What is the worst case scenario?
Edited on Mon May-24-04 08:52 PM by ck4829
What could cause the destruction of the United States?

Bush becomes Dictator?
The Intolerant Christian Right takes over?
Civil War?
A group of states secedes?
Suspension of the Constitution?
Terrorism and/or the government's response to it?
Something else?

1. Worst case?
We muddle through, giving up a little one step at a time, until - say, 20 years in the future - we look at each other and ask where our freedom went.

Of course, if you're 40 or above, you do that already....

2. Well...
I'd have to say that it will probably happen when a gallon of gas reaches 5+$ a gallon. Because at that point we've probably hit a peak oil scenario.

3. The election of Bush in 2004 . . .

5. Hrm...
Martial law, forced churchgoing, imprisonment/torture for anyone who refuses, or refuses to serve in the war, or criticizes the government. Outlawed homosexuality, same consequences. Outlawed interracial marriage. Banning of books from public circulation. Destruction of public libraries. Burning of houses for families whose members end up in jail for above reasons. Abolishment of intercontinental flights.

There are many, many things that *could* be worse. Right now sucks, but the above-mentioned would suck much, much more.

6. I'm not convinced the "United States" exists
The Constitutional form of the government is a hollow facade at this point. The executive has been powers far in excess of those by constitutional design and the Bill of Rights is basically gone.

No one realizes it yet because the persecution has been against foreignors or immigrants mostly and the illegal surveillance has been authorized by law but not noticed publicly. The unelected executive gets a blank check from Congress with little accountability and does whatever they please with the money.

The Chairman of the Armed Services committee just tells Wolfie tell me what you want and you'll get it. Demands for information from Congress are stonewalled and fought, evidence is simply destroyed to conceal illegal activities. Getting information to the public is core constitutional function of elected branch of government. Ho hum.
