Democratic Underground makes a difference. Don't believe otherwise
Too many times I have seen the cable media completely ignore important stories until someone posts them here. It is not coincidence. They know we are a threat to them and their advertisers when people start coming to sites like this one for their news when the no one else wants to cover something. They can't afford not to pay attention to us. They realize that too many people are on to their games. They know how many hits a site like DU gets every day, and they are worried. That is a fact. They know when we catch them lying or obfuscating. They are not stupid. For the cable channels to ignore sites like DU would be suicide. And they know it. Keep posting your news stories, and your thoughts and opinions too. We are making a difference. You guys all rock. Even the lurkers are doing their part piling up hit after hit here because someone is noticing. There are a lot of good sites, but I believe DU is leading the way. Keep up the hard work. It will pay off. We will take our country back from the wing nuts before you know it. I promise. The key is just don't ever give up. We will win this good fight.

SSgt from the Marines, retired out after 12 years, well worth a read, especially his message to fellow marines at the end of the interview

edit to add this snip

AMY GOODMAN: Who do you hold most responsible for this?

STAFF SERGEANT JIMMY MASSEY: The president of the United States. He's the win that authorized it. He's the one that said there were weapons of mass destruction. He's the one that gave the case to us for going to war. We went to war backing him, however, the intelligence reports that we were getting hindered our ability to make Iraq a free democracy.

6. Staying "Informed" is not a passive process...

It's an active one. I hope in our education system that they begin to emphasize this fact. In my humble opinion, I was never taught this in school or college. Education does not begin or end in a classroom it is a life long quest. Let's always remember this!!

8. They have totally blown off the coverage of...
...the strange things coming out of the Oklahoma City bombing trial, the Pakistani man we arrested here the other day trying to buy silencers and detonators, the capture of three different caches of fully automatic weapons (not the semi-auto that the press always gets wrong) not including the cache that the Texan with the poisen gas bomb had, or...........

9. don't just post here. E-mail and write and call for God's sake
Most people are lazy. The so-called "journalists" of today are no exception. Nobody really wants to work that hard.

You gotta serve these people what they need. Make their jobs easier. Otherwise they can clock out early by just repeating what the White House tells them to report.

It's corporate news, don'tcha know. Nobody really loves their job, they're just working for the big company.

Hand it to them on a silver fucking platter.

10. Yep. I don't watch TV -- you GOT THAT, mr advertising exec?
I'm out from under the influence of your commercials! I'm no longer BUYING your description of reality. I know YOU and your militaristic frineds are the enemy, not some poor people in Iraq. You've lost ALL CREDIBILITY in the eyes of many people and are losing more every day you keep that idiot in the white house. But whether he is there or not, YOU'VE LOST ME FOR GOOD. I'm not going back to your corporate "BUY BUY BUY" world.

FUCK YOU!!

PS, even with NO TV, I am one of the best informed people around. People COME TO ME, and ask, "what the hell is going on." Or, "What's up with this story?" My primary source for news (not to mention very interesting and often very knowledgeable commentary) is DU!
