What would you do if Kerry choose Gephart as his Vice President?
I would not like it, but would vote for Kerry anyway.

My sense is that many Democrats left of center would not vote. Gephart sold his soul to bush on the Iraq war, and still has no remorse. Kerry said he was duped, but if he choose Gephart, I think he contradicts himself.

What would you do?

With all due respect, my disgust over Clinton (the perjury, not the sex) prevented me from voting for Gore in 2000 -- and frankly I took some pleasure at Gore's ultimate defeat.

And Bush didn't seem that bad: he'd gotten along with a Democrat legislature in Texas, and he didn't seem likely to eviscerate the 4th Amendment anymore than Clinton (clipper chip, DMCA, Ruby Ridge) had done. I figured the country could survive four years of Bush.

Then Bush got into office. And appointed Ashcroft. And got his all-justifying Pearl Harbor September 11th. And parlayed that into a pointless and ineptly-managed war.

And using the "war on terrorism" and the "Patriot" Act, the Bush Administration has since effectively revoked habeas corpus and the 1st ("free speech zones", threatening prosecution of editors of books from banned countries), 4th (Patriot act allows warrantless search & seizure), 5th (due process and grand juries never got to Guantanamo ), 6th (counsel & speedy trial, ibid.), 8th ("cruel and unusual" characterizes Abu Ghraib well), and 10th (overriding California marijuana and Oregon euthanasia laws) Amendments.

So with all due respect to your ethics -- and I'm not trying to be sarcastic -- please think of all the ethical consequences of your vote.

Because I'm honestly worried that four more years of Bush might just mean the end of the United States of America that I grew up in and our Founding Fathers fought and bled to create.

8. I think it would be a big mistake
I honestly don't know what I would do. I respect Gep for his union support over the years. However both he and Kerry sold out on this war IMO. I don't know if I can simply pretend that is okay with me. He would do a lot better with me if he chose an anti war democrat for VP. There are a ton of them in congress and of course there is alway Howard Dean.

16. Feel betrayed and cry a lot!
Yes, I'd still vote for him because Shrub is soooo badddd, but ever since the Kennedy assaination and the Nixon quasi impeachment, I have been very aware of that usually obscure VP CAN become your President very quickly. Gephardt has tried a number of times to be the Dem Candidate and failed each time. I believe he is almost as sneaky a Shrub in his campaign tricks, and I don't want him as my President ever!

Kerry is going to be looking for more star power than that.

Edwards or Clark would be much more likely. I'd like to see him go with Hillary.

21. what else is there to vote for?
it is a foregone conclusion that if we want Bush booted out, we vote for Kerry. I hate being held to a vote like that, but I will traipse to the polls and vote for a candidate whom I have serious doubts about his strategy, regarding Bush's war and invasion of Iraq.

I know there are other issues in the campaign for which Kerry is tryin desperately to change the focus to, but let's face it--no issue is greater than the loss of thousands of lives, and thousands upon thousands of maimed bodies -- all done on American lies and for nothing but increasing the wealth of American corporations.

It is too bad he did not have the balls of a Dean or Kucinich or , another hero, Lincoln Chafee, the only Republican Senator to vote against the war. If he did, he would be far better positioned than he is now.

The concern for human life and the attitudes and lack of morals in the Bush administration which is running the country as if it were one of these non responsible to the country or the people of America, takes precedence over such stupid issues as marriage rights of homosexuals.

57. I did not mean to do that if that is what it seems to you
what I am saying is that I truly do not care at all--it is not an issue to me. I do not stay awake at night worrying over it, because to me it is not an issue. It is simply something that does not cause me to knee jerk in some response--everyone deserves to have rights

It will not KILL anyone, have their legs blown off at the age of ten, torture anyone, invade a defenseless country of homosexuals

I am sorry I canno muster up the energy to protest for homosexual marriage.

There are far more pressing things on my mind, such as the murders of thousands of innocent people.

Give them what they deserve as far as I am concerned--but I cannot get all enthused about that issue right now.

Gephardt IS left of center .... His IWR vote notwithstanding ...

WHY would someone condemn a man who has spent his WHOLE life striving to improve the lot of working people, for one vote made in the heat of war ? ...

I didnt like Gephardt fawning support of Bush in that Rose Garden scene: but that doesnt steal Gep's heart from us ...

66. Gephardt is very good, except for the war
The war is the only thing people should be upset about. His record is very good.

69. With a happy bounce in my step, I walk into the polling place and
proudly cast my america-saving vote for Kerry-Gephardt, looking forward to vicious election night taunting of the freeper trolls and far left wack jobs who take every opportunity to bash Kerry.

73. Gephardt is spineless
If Kerry brought him on board it would tell me everything I need to know.....It would tell me that Kerry lives in a fantasy land and I would be tempted to sit out the election or leave the country

76. He's responsible for some of the Bush damage to this nation,
being a total wimp when he should have stood up for something, and he's a spineless apologist for progressive values. He did in Dean in the Iowa primary, so Kerry could win it all. This is likely his payback. Close to, but not QUITE as bad as Lieberman. I'll vote for him and pray very hard for Kerry's good health. I hope the fiasco we've lived thru the last 3 years will begin to sink in, and people will join with Howard Dean and energize the "Democratic WIng" of the Democratic Party.

80. I want Bush gone. I'm tired. I'm offended to the core by Bush
Edited on Tue May-25-04 11:13 PM by Solly Mack
but I'll also tell you that if Bush and crew merely walk away without being brought to justice, I will give up on America. Replacing Bush without fixing America, so that someone like Bush never happens again , is just a band-aid..and a cheap brand band-aid at that.

America can not afford to allow Bush Inc to simply wave goodbye from the whitehouse lawn...if we do, another Bush will come along.

Gephart, for all his goodness, cannot capture the magical essence that is necessary to push Kerry over the edge. Only Clark can do this.
