America used to be a very strong supporter of the Geneva Convention
Why have we changed? It served us well for World War II Korea and Vietnam. Why have we decided that Humane rules to warfare are no longer in our interest? Why is torture now considered appropriate when it wasn't during WWII which was a real war? Very real sacrifices were made during WWII and yet we felt the need to keep our humanity even though we were in very serious doubt of the outcome. Iraq was supposed to be a cakewalk and not one military spokesperson or TV pundit would say we wouldn't win handily. Why then do we resort to violating the Geneva Accords? What possibly is there to be gained? Is it a way for Amerika to look "Bad" to the world. Kind of like don't mess with us or we'll rape your old lady and your five year old son. Is it all about image? We know torture really doesn't work. People will say anything to make you stop. Why Why Why Why. Is it just like shoving a firecracker up a frog's butt. For the enjoyment? Why is it in any way justifiable?

1. Because we are fighting an enemy that doesn't care...
as opposed to all of the other enemies that didn't care...or something like that...whatever...there is no logic in anything King George does.

5. Bush appointed people who don't care about human rights.
Bush appointed people who don't care about human rights.

People like Alberto Gonzalez and John Yoo, who said that the entire country of Afghanistan is an exception to the Geneva Conventions, even though it's a signatory.

Alberto Gonzalez is still receving our tax dollars as White House Counsel.

John Yoo is receivng tax dollars from Californians in his current positions as a UC Berekely law profesor.

6. It matches our view of criminal justice
For years we had penitentiaries and correctional institutions. At least SOME Americans claimed jails were to rehabilitate criminals and return them as productive members of society.

Now, they're ass-rape prisons. As if prison rape is part of the judge's sentence. They are "lock-em-up-and-throw-away-the-key" prisons. It is all punitive. Nothing to do with corrections. Nothing to do with rehabilitation.

America got hard-line. The Geneva Convention is collateral damage.

9. Do you mean like hypocrite D. Rumsfeld, complaining that parading
American soldiers in front of cameras last year was (and is) a violation of the Geneva Convention? The law is only enforceable when it benefits us?

10. The US was the impetus for the 1949 Geneva Conventions...
to ensure that what happened during WWII would never happen again. It is a very sad time when the country that shone so well in helping to bring about the Geneva Conventions are playing a leading role in trying to destroy them.

11. We changed nations. The Old American Republic was a supporter
Imperial Amerika is a Rogue Nation and cannot support such Liberal, Weak, Treasonous Claptrap such as the "Geneva Convention".

You're thesis is true, you just forgot that we don't live in the Old American Republic anymore!

12. An example of how the US adhered to The Geneva Convention
during WWII. There were lots of POW camps in Texas. Wonder why? GC regs called for prisoners to be held in a similar climate as to the one in which they were captured. Since many were captured in North Africa, the POW Camps were built in Texas because of a similar climate.

And how strict was The US in adherence? A POW camp was being built in The US and was nearly complete. Prisoners were brought in and put in tents while the barracks for prisoners and guards were being completed. The guards barracks were finished first and the guards moved from tents to the new barracks. Higher ups found out about this and informed the prison officials that Geneva Convention Regs said the guards and prisoners were to be housed in like facilities. So they moved the guards back out of the new barracks and back into tents until all the barracks were completed.

And remember the enemy was Germany..... there were very few Japanese POWS......... not exactly sweethearts.

13. There's a difference between pride and vanity!
Then we were a proud nation. We had much to be proud *of*.

Now we have lost the value that lies behind god honest pride and we have become vain. Vanity is cousin to foolishness and we are the most foolish of vain peoples.

Wounded pride retreats in silence. Wounded vanity screams its hurt to the rooftops and displays itself the victim.
