Are military women still commanded to adhere to Arab custom?
Edited on Tue May-25-04 12:50 PM by Bandit
I remember a big controversy a while back about women in the military in Saudi Arabia not being allowed to travel unless accompanied by a male escort and having to cover themselves completely. Does this hold true in other Arab countries and do American military still have to follow their customs?

1. The rules aren't the same in all Islamic countries.
Saudi Arabia & Afghanistan were probably the worst. Our military is no longer in Saudi Arabia, to Osama's glee. After 9/11, Afghanistan was better for a while but is heading back downhill.

Women did pretty well in Iraq but that's over. Womens' rights vary by country in the Islamic world. Within each country, they vary by ethnic group & social class as well.
