Al Gore To Call For Bush Team's Resignation
Former Vice President Al Gore will deliver a major foreign policy address in New York City on Wednesday, sponsored by MoveOn PAC, calling for the resignation of five members of the Bush Administration team and one member of the military command responsible for the failed policy and abuse of prisoners in Iraq.

Gore will identify the various ways in which all Americans--soldiers in Iraq, residents and travelers abroad, and citizens at home—are endangered by the bitterness created throughout the Islamic world—and beyond—by US policy.

He will also explore the linkages between the President’s Iraq policy and the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison.

ATTNETION: Please help us get this event televised by CSPAN by calling or emailing them and telling them you want to see it!

Thanks

is a big no-no to a lot of people, who only seems to connect MoveOn with the Hitler ad.

However, it would be interesting to hear what suggestions he has.

I mention MoveOn every chance I get since the goal of the GOP is to discredit it. They are very good at what they do.

I admire Al Gore very much.

Right now on Air America, but the one he mentions is about the environment. Gore has become a very powerful speaker, drawing large crowds I hear.

7. That's because
he finally got down to the real Al Gore, not some cheap substitute, and started speaking the truth (like someone else we know and love). I LIKE the real Al Gore -- wasn't all that crazy about the too-malleable and uncentered version he projected during his campaign.

Was it on the O'Franken factor that he said the DLC had left him? I would love to find that statement to refer to again. You are right about being himself.

14. No, it's that people are actually listening to him now
He spent all of 2000 explaining that it was the most important election in his lifetime, with the strongest contrast between candidates ever. He talked about the special interests funding the far right, and how they were working hand in hand to deceive the public into voting against their interests. He talked about the looming crisis of global warming, the threat of terrorism, how a Bush admin would threaten civil rights... the list is really endless.

The problem was that the media refused to cover his speeches in detail. Chris Lehane and others have stated many times that they just could not get the media to cover anything Gore did - - espeically the enviornmental speeches and events. The media decided what the "important issues" were, based on polling. So if either candidate mentioned those "important issues", like Social Security or tax cuts, they got a thirty second sound byte on the news. If you wanted to know what Gore was saying, you had to watch C-SPAN or watch the videos he posted on his website.

But most people in 2000 were not motivated to do so. It's a different story in 2004, now that people have had a chance to see the result when the far right controls Congress and the White House.

If we are lucky enough to have Gore run in a future election, the GOP and Greens will say "Gore sat on his @ss between 2000 and now. Why didn't he ever speak out against the Bush Administration when it could have made a difference?" And since the mainstream media has ignored or ridiculed everything he has done with Moveon.org, there will be people who believe it. And if the media has changed enough (or enough people are actually researching what the candidates say), people will sit around and complain "I like this Gore better, why didn't he speak out like this during the Bush Administration, when it could have made a difference?"

US must meet outsourcing challenge: Lieberman

PTI< WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, 2004 04:25:24 PM >

WASHINGTON: Instead of lamenting that jobs were being hijacked to India and China, the US has to first stop blaming others and "face some hard facts to set its own house in order", says Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman.

The American economy, he said, had failed to adapt to fundamental changes and to growing competition in the global economy.

If this trend continues the US will lose not only jobs but also its innovation infrastructure and, along with it, its competitive edge in the global market, he said.

"To meet the challenge of outsourcing of American jobs the US has to first stop blaming others and face some hard facts. This is just the tip of an economic iceberg that America is sailing towards," Lieberman said on Tuesday at a discussion hosted by the New America Foundation, a Washington-based think tank, on "Offshore outsourcing and America's competitive edge: losing out in high technology R & D services sectors"

20. Not sure what how you mean that...
However, most of the new staff of Democracy for America, Dean's new group, are former Gore/Clinton people from the WH or from Gore's campaign staff. Gore has honestly become what he wanted to be in 2000...and was warned against by the DLC....a populist. Tom McMahon, Tom Hughes, Laura Gross, and several others have been recently hired.

I care very much for the truth that he and Howard Dean have brought out in this country. Neither of them are done. Gore works behind the scenes in financing for projects. He delivers speeches to groups with huge responses.

24. Here is my opinion. . .
. . .Al Gore was the last Democratic nominee for president and given the circumstances surrounding 2000 Al Gore would and should have been a very important surrogate for whomever the nominee would be. By endorsing Dean he hurt his effectiveness as a surrogate for the eventual nominee. This has nothing to do with an anti-Dean thought, it has more to do with what is good for the party. I was the biggest Wes Clark supporter there is but I knew a primary endorsement from Bill or Hillary, Gore, Jesse Sr., a certain others would not have been good for party unity and if Clark had not secured the nomination (which he did not) it would have damaged their credibility as it relates to their support of the nominee. Just the fact that we Dean has come up on this thread is a prime example.

31. Disagree.
Gore was already not a part of the "party establishment" anymore. There are articles at the DLC way back about how Gore needed to straighten up and forego his "populism."

Dean's power will come after November, and his group will make a difference then.

It really did not matter whether Gore endorsed or did not. Dean too openly disagreed with TPTB, and he was done for as a candidate.

Yes, Dean should not have come up on this thread at all. It was about Al Gore, and the way he is speaking out powerfully now.

33. I disagree with your disagree. . .grin
I think the last nominated candidate is part of the establishment, especially given the robbery of 2000. I hope that you understand that I feel his endorsement was wrong not because of who endorsed but because he endorsed. I think there are certain party leaders that should sit out the primary, for unity purposes, and I felt that Gore was one of them.

That is the problem. They were involved via Clark's entry, via the non-endorsement endorsement by Carter....and many other ways.

I would rather not go back there......but the party leaders did not sit out the primary.

76. Keep blaming the DLC and not the campaign itself. . .
. . .it makes you feel better. If you are paying attention to what I am saying it is not about whether or not Dean was the best candidate it was about Gore's responsibility as a party leader to sit out the primary. At has nothing to do with any kind of perceived advantage that Gore's endorsement may have given Dean it has everything to do with Gore's credibility when it comes to supporting the eventual nominee (who turned out not be Dean). This is not about attacking Dean, this is about Gore and his responsibility to the party. By being so aligned with one candidate (any candidate) it makes it harder for him to be taken seriously when he stumps for the eventual nominee.

78. Oh, good grief. Do you think Clinton lacks credibility stumping for Kerry
Since he said publically that Wes Clark was the best candidate in the primary? How about Jimmy Carter, who said at the freaking Dem Unity Dinner that Kerry was not his first choice as a candidate? Does John Edwards lack crediblity when he campaigns for Kerry, a guy he was critiquing only a couple months ago? Pols endorse primary candidates all the time and if their primary candidate looses, they put a big smile on their face and endorse the primary winner. This "Gore has a special responsibility to stay neutral" is spin launched by the campaigns who didn't win Gore's endorsement. It's spin that's designed to reduce Gore's standing in the party, it's a preemptive strike by people who are already lining up their 2008 campaigns and don't want to run against Gore.

<snip>

The hawkish master of such million-selling thrillers as "Patriot Games" and "The Hunt for Red October" now finds himself adding to the criticism of the Iraq war, and not only through his own comments.

His latest book, Battle Ready (2004 book) is a collaboration with another war critic, retired Marine Gen. Anthony C. Zinni. "Battle Ready" looks at Zinni's long military career, dating back to the Vietnam War, and includes harsh remarks by Zinni about the current conflict.

In a press conference held on March 25, to promote the book, both Clancy and Zinni singled out the Department of Defense for criticism. Clancy recalled a prewar encounter in Washington during which he "almost came to blows" with Richard Perle, a Pentagon adviser at the time and a longtime advocate of the invasion.

"He was saying how (Secretary of State) Colin L. Powell was being a wuss because he was overly concerned with the lives of the troops," Clancy said. "And I said, 'Look ..., he's supposed to think that way!' And Perle didn't agree with me on that. People like that worry me."

43. Gore, the Democrats and the American people were screwed...
...out of an election. The DLC, Lieberman and many other Democrats threw Gore to the wolves when the going got tough and the Neocons nipped at their heels. Even though they betrayed HIM...Gore has always supported the party and he's still in their fighting when so many others have joined with the other side.

- RWingers will call him a traitor for speaking out during a 'time of war'. But his is exactly the voice we need right now to rally the people against the fascists. His voice will join with the handful of Democrats that have...from the beginning...spoken out against Bush* corruption and criminality. There are so few Dems left with the courage to speak out and Gore is one of the few that can fill a leadership void.

http://www.algoresupportcenter.com/

We would love for anyone who can to join our great forum!

Also, I sent out a mass mailing to our members telling them to contact CSPAN about the event. However, I don't have any info from CSPAN about if they are going to carry the speech or not. The only thing I know to do is to keep calling and to ask them if they are carrying it!

Keep it up!

*Also about Gore's influence. In 2002, Gore called on Bush to fire his economic team. A couple weeks later he did. Then about a month later, Gore called on Bush to go to the UN about going to war with Iraq, and again, he did a short while afterwards. The repubs know who is right.

52. Now Janet.......
You know GSC has all the Gore news! No, just kidding. I applaud both of our sites. We have one great goal in common: Restoring democracy by promoting Al Gore's vision for America. I urge all to bookmark the Al Gore Democrats site, along with the Al Gore Support Center. You can't go wrong with either. Each site would love to have you!

Keep up the good work Janet!

PS: We will have all news, recap, photos, video, etc. after his speech tommorrow.

62. He would be a great VP (as proven). Kerry's not considering him.
Gore as Kerry's running mate is slightly less likely than McCain as Kerry's running mate.

70. I think it is an insult to suggest Gore should be VP
He should have been President. He is not going to play 2nd to Kerry now.

77. But Gore will go down in the history books as the
man who, if he hadn't had the election stolen from him, could've averted America from the collision course that is currently on.

He wouldn't have taken a whole month off in August 2001.
He would've paid attention.

We wouldn't be where we are now if the rightful president was in the White House instead of the criminal thugs who are there now.

Bush will be thought of and joked about for centuries to come as the Worst. President. Ever.
