I love this! Even the literary hawks are turning on Dimson!

Tom Clancy wrestles with Iraq war
New book co-written with war critic Gen. Anthony Zinni

Snip

Zinni has openly attacked the war, but Clancy reluctantly acknowledged his own concerns. He declined repeatedly to comment on the war, before saying that it lacked a "casus belli," or suitable provocation.

Snip

Both Clancy and Zinni praised President Bush but would not commit to voting for him. Clancy said that voting for Sen. John Kerry, the Democrats' presumptive nominee, would be "a stretch for me," but wouldn't say that he was supporting Bush.

Zinni, a registered Republican who voted for Bush in 2000, said he could not support the president's re-election "if the current strategists in the defense department are going to be carried over."

Wonder what the name was...

8. Can someone please tell me what Clancy called Hannity?
I was watching the program and Hannity was all ashen faced after trying to hype up bush's debacle of a speech. So, first he is harassing Zinni for working under the evil Bill Clinton. He was really rude and Clancy watched this disapprovingly with his arms crossed. Then Hannity started talking to Clancy. Hannity asked Clancy if he was voting for Bush and Clancy shrugged, kept the arms crossed and said "probably, I guess." Hannity said, "oh, that's good." Then all of the suddent something was cut and then Colmes was on. So, I really really want to know what he said.

11. He didn't call him a bad name. He used the term "casus belli."
Clancy said to Hannity that there was no "casus belli" for the war in Iraq. It was obvious that Hannity didn't know that a "casus belli" is a case or a sound reason. Hannity asked him to repeat it, apparently hoping that Clancy would use a different term, and Clancy repeated it.

5. Isn't Tom Clancy a winger anyway?
His book series, what is it called, "Tom Clancy's Facist Force," are all full of guys in nightvision goggles with combat rifles that shoot up evil "ecologist extremists." And...if I read them correctly...in his novels he had a series of terrorist attacks which, in an extremely unlikely manner, raised his CIA analyst Jack Ryan to the Presidency! Sounds like a tribute to Bush to me.

You couldn't have the right wing infiltrate people's thoughts so heavily unless you had someone prepare the public by putting those ideas in their minds. Clancy and the other "techno-thriller" authors did it with their massive paranoid theories, and their missile-toting cowboy heroes. And all of them have fetishes about the latest and the greatest military hardware; that's what's on the covers of their books.

7. He is very much a republican and a hawk.
I've heard him say as much myself on the morning shows, and he reflects it in the characterizations in his novels.

3. Clancy's Interview With Hannity Didn't Go Over Too Well
Hannity asked Tom Clancy what a "casus belli" was and Clancy told him to read the book. His staff didn't include the term in the briefing or notes handed to the DimBot and Hannity was lost.

It must be nice to make a million plus a year to be that stupid.

4. you know as soon as i saw the title of your post i asked myself...
...Self, who will be writing Tom Clancy's next book?

I might be interested in seeing what General Zinni has to say but, to be honest, why does he have to pretend that Clancy is his co-author. I guess it's marketing. Does Clancy write anything himself other than a signature on a check? Is Clancy even still alive?

I guess we should be glad that it isn't a "collaboration" between Zinni and Ludlum...

17. Clancy name probably assures millions in sales to Zinni's book.
If the guy had any real input at all, it's hard to fault Zinni for going with that.

Clancy "writes" the books with his name on it as "producer" or whatever like Emeril "cooks" in all the restaurants with his name...

In a way, Clancy is the ultimate chickenhawk type--a guy who got fabulously rich pimping fantasies of war and war technology, but as far as I am aware, was never in the military himself. I think what I remember is that his eyesight was too bad.

12. Caught a tiny bit of Hammity's radio bile today, about this.
He said something like, Zinni and Clancy "were not happy campers when they left the studio".

He's gotta be the stupidest jerk regularly on tv.
