1. There is a way to protest, then there is a way to protest.
I don't like this.

2. I agree
Let's keep the "soldiers" out of it. Bush, Cheney, Rummy and Wolfie want to deflect the blame for this mess on the soldiers. Anti-War protesters should not help.

Edited on Tue May-25-04 07:15 PM by amen1234

many of us Patriots find rumsfeld's actions to be WAR CRIMES...and we are STANDING UP....

if you wish to protect the WAR CRIMINALS, that speaks volumes....

annihilation of human dignity....will YOU stand up to stop it, or will you just complain when others STAND UP, or like many, will you just be silent in complicity....?????

4. Now who in the hell said anything about protecting War Criminals?
You do nothing to further your cause with comments like that.

7. "You do nothing to further your cause......."

typical to throw it onto ME, as if it were MY cause and not YOUR cause too...since our taxes paid for these WAR CRIMES, this cause belongs to all of us....

it was typical in nazi Germany for many people to say: oh, it's YOUR cause, and none of MY business....and they turned away....and pretended that nothing needed to be done....some attacked those who spoke up....but most just pretended that everything was just fine...

10. Which cause would that be?
The events that happened at Abu Ghraib were as much the "fault" of those who did the deeds as those who ordered, permitted, or set the tone for the deeds to be done.

It's silly, IMO, to focus only on the higher-ups (much though we'd all like to be rid of Rumsfeld and the whole rotten Bush crew) and, in so doing, turn away from the perpetrators.

All are guilty.

Certainly there may be extenuating circumstances that would impact the actual degree of guilt, just as we have differences in our laws between voluntary manslaughter and first degree murder. Those kinds of judgements have yet to be made and, hopefully, the pressure will continue as those empowered to get to the bottom of this mess actually get to the bottom of it.

That doesn't change the fact that all involved are guilty.

More than that, all those who knew what was going on and said nothing about it are also guilty.

Certainly a soldier stationed a few hundred miles distant from Abu Ghraib on a totally different assignment is not to be painted with some broad brush in this thing. But I'd think that the soldier stationed far away from Abu Ghraib and doing his assignment as well and as honorably as he knows how to do it would also want this mess cleared up. Face it. No one wants to be associated with an outfit that lets things like what happened at Abu Ghraib go uninvestigated or unpunished.

5. My personal preference for a street theater is to . . .
Edited on Tue May-25-04 07:18 PM by ET Awful
Have 1600 plus people present with 800 plus miniature coffins (one for each soldier lost), and an equivalent number of US flags (all folded in the traditional triangle presented to the family after a military funeral). All of those flags and coffins should be laid out in a respectable fashion in front of the Whitehouse lawn.

Great idea!

But the thing of it is that we can do both... and there's a place for both.

There are probably some businesses that make promotion items (like pencils with the company name on them) that would be glad to donate little flags. I have no idea where you could get little coffins. Maybe someone else has an idea?

6. This is great - shows what REAL patriots look like!
But I guess it's "too icky" for some sunshine patriots noted above!

Keep up the good work - the more demonstrations the better - maybe we can get everyone disgusted at bunkerboy and his gang of WAR CRIMINALS as we are!
