I need a link to Gore's
quote about inventing the internet. A friend of mine who leans to the right sent me a realoneaudio sound bite where Gore appears to say the infamous "I took the initiative in creating the internet". It sounded very incomplete and I was wondering where a more complete quote could be found. I've been searching but my Alzheimer's riddled brain can't find it. Can anyone help?

No,
Al Gore did not claim he "invented" the Internet, nor did he say anything that could reasonably be interpreted that way. The derisive "Al Gore said he 'invented' the Internet" put-downs are misleading distortions of something he said (taken out of context) during an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "Late Edition" program on 9 March 1999. When asked to describe what distinguished him from his challenger for the Democratic presidential nomination, Senator Bill Bradley of New Jersey, Gore replied (in part):

During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

2. he did say that
His exact words were, in fact, "I took the initiative in creating the internet."

And you know what? He was telling the truth.

Back in the late 80's/90's, the internet existed as a plaything for the Army called ARPANet. When Gore was a senator he was the man that saw the potential and pushed for the technology to be made public sector.

3. The quote (and context) was as follows:
In a March 1999 interview with Wolf Blitzer, Gore said "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." This was in response to a question along the lines of "What legislative accomplishments are you proud of" or "What can you claim as accomplishments during your time in the Senate?"

Blitzer didn't even blink. That's because it was obvious that Gore was saying his action as a Senator fostered the early growth of what would become the internet. He took the initiative in the fostering the creation of the internet from a governmental perspective. This is absolutely true, and he should be proud of it.

The oft-described "Father of the Internet", Vincent Cerf, is quoted as saying "The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator." Al Gore also coined the term "Information Superhighway" in his early writings on the subject, before it existed as we know it.

See this link for more info, but all you have to do is a Google search for "Gore internet" to find more. http://www.perkel.com/politics/gore/internet.htm
