Is it just me or is Colin Quinn a Dumbass?
I just watched his show with Al Franken and Co. on and he defended all of his points by blurting out statements and going to commmercial breaks. Someon on DU once said -- a conservative comedian isnt funny

3. He's just the "foil"
the devil's advocate, if you will, who allows, by his comments and questions, the guests to express their opinions.

At least, that's MY take on it.

6. No, his politics are consistently right-wing
He goes into the segments with an opinion, though he does get responses from his guests.

4. It's not just you...
He's not even as funny as Dennis Miller...and Dennis is about as unfunny and self-indulgent as they come.

His talent peaked as a smarmy sidekick on the hilarious "Remote Control" of years gone by...

Colin? I believe he has jumped the proverbial shark.

19. Quinn is a lunkehead, and his show blows, but ...
how does one "jump the proverbial shark"?

I must be a bit slow and behind the times.

27. Shark jumping
There was a "Happy Days" episode where Fonzy jumped a shark tank on his motorcycle. That show marked a point of no return where the show became a parody of itself. The term "jumping the shark" is now broadly applied to any similar event -- where someone or something goes wildly past a point of no return.

That's so banal already - second only to 'gravitas' in it's having been overused to death by mindless lemmingpundits.

I have heard it... but, trendiness puts me off immediately. Yet, I like the phrase and will use it, long after the lemmings have forgotten it.

"Off with their heads!"...

doesn't have the same playfull ring to it, does it, my Queen?

18. He is the unfunny
He can suck a room full of laughing people dry in seconds. He is the black hole of funny. Nothing can escape his dread pull. His only benefit is that he has helped my reflexes by making me find and hit the remote after the Daily Show is over before his mouth can get moving.

22. Exactly!
And I actually came up with the 'sucks the funny out of other people' line when he was just a lowly drunk asshole making ignorant comments on MTV about 15 years ago. I didn't even think he was funny on SNL. I think he's really just a bad human caricature of Christopher Hitchens.

8. "a conservative comedian is not that funny"
That's why he has to surround himself with really funny "liberal" comedians. This was one of his better shows. Go figure.

I'm starting to believe that there is really a disease or psychosis that needs to explored.

17. Ugh! He was horrible.
He is so not funny. Altho I must admit I liked it when he played teh foppish "Chandler" when Matthew Perry was hosting the show - "Heavens to Murgatroyd!" Heheh... other than that, he was a one note player. Played the same "Long Islander" character over and over.

how CQ even got close to SNL or Comedy Central. He's just not funny.
I could go to almost any comedy club around the country and find someone with more talent. Goes to show ya, it's not what you know, it's who you know.

24. He's a dipshit. Did you see the part where he asked why
it's bad that the Bush administration has a private agenda throughout the middleast?

He said something like, 'ok, let's assume they do have this other agenda in Iraq. What's so bad about wanted to spread democracy?". Seriously, if you're over 8 years old and you still fall for that "spreading democracy" shit, you're an idiot. Period.

Or later, when he suggested that there is no right wing media. When Garofalo asked who his source was for his claim about tortured Iraqis saying they were treated great, he scoffed and talked about "conspiracies".

I do think Quinn is representative of the average war supporter, though. He's uninformed, and filled with propaganda.

I wouldn't even begin to know his politics because he is so horribly unfunny that I break speed records turning away from his lame-ass show.

Not that it surprises me to hear he is an ignorant Bushevik.

That is what I would expect from someone so blatantly unfunny as him.

32. Colin
I think it's clear that Comedy Central was feeling a little pressure to "show both sides", now that the Daily Show was no longer under pressure from GE to go easy on Bush.

Colin was obviously the only right-winger they could sign. But while he's obviously well-informed and thoughtful (politics aside) his ability to communicate this, especially improvisationally, is pathetic. He's not funny, and he's wrong on so many issues.

34. i watched AAR vs. colin last night on Tuff Crowd
colin was absolutely horrible. i have stuck up for him in the past, maybe i have just missed the bad shows, but he was trying to argue without out any facts or sources for his claims. everything was "i heard this".

he said he read an interview with the iraqi detainee in the leash pictures from abu grhaib, and that the detainee said he was treated well. janeane asked him where he read this and he had no answer, only that he read it.

has anyone heard about this interview?
