The Wingnut principal at that H.S. from the Conservative Idiots o' the wk.
As a former teacher, it makes me freakin sick to read about that teacher in new mexico who got fired (and continues to get dicked around) by his former principal, soley on the grounds that the teacher's students wrote some poety (and performed it publicly) that was critical of bush, et. al.
the principal sounds like someone who would be a freeper, and i'm amazed that he hasn't been placed into some political office of some sort, what with his contempt for civil liberties and how that corresponds to the current regime.

I'm wondering if perhaps some phone calls might be in order to Principal Tripp, to encourage him to stop effing around with the first amendment.

the high school's webpage with contact info is at

http://www.rrps.k12.nm.us/rrhs/ADMIN_CONTACTS/index.htm

phone numbers for both Tripp and the other principal involved, Sue Passell, are on that page (i'd post the numbers, but not sure what DU's policy is on that sort of thing).

articles about the issue can be found here

1. the very first bulletin board I did when I started teaching ...
... was based on the song "Peace Train" w/the Vietnam 'War' as the background ... no problemo ... that was '73 ... today, I probably would have lost my job ...

(my teaching days ceased in '78)

2. The atmosphere described in the News-Journal editorial
can be likened to a Nazi rally.

Words cannot describe how I feel about that fascist principal -- and I am a writer myself.

I am glad I am not a public school teacher; the conditions under which I'd have to work, and the students have to learn -- if they learn at all -- is so... FASCISTIC.
