I think this could be the one thing that really will nail the neocons coffin shut, unlike all the things that Bush has kept bouncing back from. The news gets worse daily on this, and now there's reports that official documents called the Geneva Convention protections "quaint". How nice.
I am not one that wants the country to fare badly, unlike what the Freepers claim all liberals truly want. At this time however, I do want this administration to fare badly, because I am sick of them getting away with things. I am tired of the fact that I (and a lot of people on the left) really do know what is going on, but are being ignored, and when the proof does come out that the left was correct all along, the rightwing tries desperately to avoid responsibility and blame Clinton. Enough is enough. I am frankly thrilled that it's not going away this time, and I hope it won't be allowed to. And for all the rightwing spin machine asses, there is only one question: what kind of person can you be to support torture?

1. As long as the torture issue is open
Bush will find it harder and harder to bounce back from all the other fun things that he's done. The media smells blood.

2. The media needs to go all the way with this and we....
need to get our people out there.

Bush has shown that he has no respect for anyone but himself and we need to oust him before he ruins us all!

4. I'm glad you brought this up, EP.
Here's my take on the whole heinous mess: I believe that the facts have not completely sunk into the American Psyche yet. First, there was the revelation that we embarked on an illegal war under dubious pretexts. The average American would never go along with Empire and Conquest, and the Cabal knew it. They sold Joe Six-Pack on the idea that we were going over there to liberate, to free an oppressed people.

About 6 months ago, the facts started to sink in. We went over there based on lies. We didn't free anybody. We got rid of a dictator, and replaced him with ------- us.

Now the latest revelation. This time the dagger went it, and it twisted around. I believe that the truth is so hard to accept on this one, that it's going to take some time to let it sink in.

We're torturers. Murderers. We mow innocent men, women, children down in the streets. We drop bombs on quiet neighborhoods, and for what? What was the reason again?

This has demolished our identity. Our sense of who we used to be in the world. The Good Guys. The Rescuer.

Instead, we're the cold-blooded killer. The sodomizer, with light sticks and black bags and electrodes. It hasn't sunk in yet.

5. Agreed
And it is starting to sink into the American psyche. That's why I think this was the big issue. People just won't be able to reconcile supporting what is clearly torture, and that is going to lead them right back to why the torture started.
Whenever anyone says that they support what's going on in Iraq I am going to ask them what kind of person they think they are, that they can support torture. People are starting to wake up to what that means.

6. Trent Lott
says that it is OK to torture. That should tell you something.

"This is not Sunday school," he said. "This is interrogation. This is rough stuff."

8. Yes that is the new meme ~ It is no longer even abuse , it is now
roughing them up. It would amuse me to hear of some of them being "roughed up" in such a manner. Especially Novak and Rove.

9. Support Our Troops
It appears that there may be photos of wide spread rape of Iraqi women. This could get interseting. It was reported the other day that Abu Ghraib was shelled by Iraqis to kill as many of their own women as possible. The mosques in Iraq have letters purpotedly smuggled out by women begging to be killed rather than to endure anymore of their glorious liberation by the US. Those troops just never stop protecting our freedom, do they?
