On C-Span 8:15a.m. showing "Remembering Saddam" a documentary
Edited on Thu May-27-04 07:21 AM by LittleApple81
watched by Bush. The producer is called Don North. Wentlooking for info. The only thing I found was this (quoting the whole thing because is just an announcement of an event:)

Host(s): The Heritage Foundation and the American Foreign Policy Council
Location: The Heritage Foundation’s Allison Auditorium

As Iraqis emerge from the dark ages of Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship, the staggering dimensions of his cruel atrocities are becoming known. Remembering Saddam is the story of seven Baghdad merchants who incurred the wrath of Saddam. Nine years ago, after spending a year in the infamous Abu Ghraib prison, their right hands were surgically removed as part of an effort to blame small businessmen for Iraq’s collapsing economy. Each man tells his story and friends, wives and children recall their experiences under the former dictator. Join us for a look at this powerful and poignant documentary, which as of now, no U.S. broadcast or cable network has chosen to air. (my bolding)

1. Is It Sponsored By Kool-Aid?
It's time to remind the sheeple that no matter how sadistic and brutal we were to the Iraqis, SADDAM WAS WORSE. Ya know...it's the non-stop meme of Saddam/911/Terrorist/WTC/Love Bush...and how we all should ignore the bad stuff, or that we're not hearing the good stuff.

C-Span's been going over the top lately in bringing on Heritage and AEI hacks who live in Bizzaro world and continue to say black is white. The more history and facts prove them wrong the more they stick to their lies. The good thing is that history will write them into oblivion soon...the bad thing is their damage continues and will take years to rectify.

I heard several calls critical of Bunnypants or the Repugnicans cut off again today. Hmmm...wonder if that was really an itchy trigger finger...

6. Saddam is another stain on the reputation of the US since we
helped put him in power, and helped keep in power, and since we furnished him with weapons of mass destruction. I wonder if that is in the documentary.

10. That was my first question.....
Are they going to show the Rummy handshake and the bill from the US/CDC for all those agents to kill Iranians??

Republicans didn't give a shit if we gave SH the material to "gas other people" during the Regan administration.

(A shame. I wanted to jump up and down and scream. "You say you're a poor marketer... but I notice your film gets around to the likes of the American Enterprise Institute and the American psyops channel... why don't you just admit you're a paid propagandist and can the poor documentary filmmaker act?")

Aghghhghg - this guy is driving me NUTS. What a insincere pile of shit, he acts like a 2nd string local news anchorman.

8. Not only that, but earlier this a.m.
they had some wingnut from the bogus "Swift Boat Vets for Truth" propagandizing about how no one even liked Kerry back in 'Nam. Brian Lamb's C-SPAN is really laying it on thick these days.

9. This will backfire, I think.
Get ready for the American diversion from Abu Gharib. I think it was horrible that Saddam did this but my thinking is that this will backfire. The similarities between Saddam and the Bush regime will be striking. Men imprisoned without being allowed to have lawyers, visitors, with their video of their hands being cut off to intimidate enemies of Saddam. I think this will be more damaging than the Bushities think. It won't show how Bush and US are different, but it will remind people that they are not very different.

Is the US government going to give free operations and new limbs to our returning maimed soldiers? Yes, we can still walk down the streets of Baghdad seeing people with missing arms and legs...many from US mortars and bombs.

11. 'Remembering Saddam' will remind people of Bush.
This documentary might have been very effective had it been released before the US scandal at Abu Gharib. Now, it will only serve to embarrass the US more and make us look more hypocritical.

17. That's what I thought before I turned it off.
I thought, Gee I wonder if they'll interview 7 guys who were tortured under American soldiers in the same prison? Nah.

That Peter moderator is Fundie or something. He let the most radical fundies (all nurses it seems :scared: ) call in and go on and on about the Bible says this and I don't want them stealing my organs blah blah.

Then when only about 4 callers tried to explain why they supported EUTHANASIA, he cut them off.

I hate CSPAN most of the time, but loved seeing Gore last night, which otherwise no other network would show.

23. It makes me so mad that Brian Lamb insists,
in fact gets angry sometimes when people call in and say he isn't fair and balanced. He always says he gets just as many calls from republicans saying their are too many liberals on his shows and too many Democrats calling in. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

Someone like FAIR needs to do a serious study on this. I'm sure it can be documented how many times HF and AEI and Repubs are on (overwhelmingly) and how many times Jim Hightower, Altman, etc. are on (minimally).

And Peter needs to go over to TBN with the other wackos.

what Ashcroft is doing in America? We are not cutting hands here yet (that I know of) but they are trying to creep this control on us. Like the toad put in warmer and warmer water until it cooks without really noticing it...

29. 'Ya want a good documentary to view about Afghanistan leftchick?
Well this will knock your socks off. Maybe Don North would want to talk to a legitimate journalist, like Jamie Doran?

In Afghanistan, filmmaker Jamie Doran has uncovered evidence of a massacre: Taliban prisoners of war suffocated in containers, shot in the desert under the watch of American troops.

Yeah, we're gonna believe a guy who got into Afghanistan on North's "Northstar Productions" credentials to tell us that Don North isn't a propagandist.

How fucking transparent.

24. Total Reichbot propaganda.
Half-truths and Goebbels-logic all designed to present a cartoonish "bad guy" caricature of Saddam while totally omitting the appalling degree of US complicity in Saddam's atrocities. It's presented as though all the events were "current" instead of preceding Gulf War I -- a timeline that's given almost no visibility.

It's a "Save the Children" propaganda piece. Reprehensible partisan spin targeting simple-minded drones.

25. I don't doubt these brutal attacks on Iraqis by Saddam occurred. But
the timing of the documentary and its perspective (in a vacuum of context) makes it evident it is being used to reinforce the "newer" reason to invade Iraq to liberate its people. It does not wash at this point.

28. Funny how there are atrocities like hands being chopped off
all over the world...yet we don't send US troops to settle those issues? In fact we seem to be taking military advice right out of saddam's playbook.

Why didn't we invade South Africa because of Apartheid???

This smelled like a propaganda piece from the start.
