Most of us were caught up in your apparent lack of intelligence, we thought your weren't dangerous. Just really, really, stupid. Silly us, our underestimation was misplaced.
What we failed to realize were the ways in which future events would cause any rational American to measure you and your administration and find you...shall we just say, misunderestimated?
We knew you knew absolutely nothing about the middle east, but that your favorite philosopher hailed from there 2000 years ago. Yeah, your Savior from alcohol; the Light who put you on the path to prosperity and global power. What we didn't know, that you knew we didn't know, was that you were so totally taken by Peak Oil Capitalism that you adopted a zealous commitment to the Neocons' twelve step program to the Global Peace of Oil Economics, including that odd small step where the United States simultaneously was in the service of both Likud and Iranian extremists.
Few of us would have figured on that underestimation of your ability to protect the US from foreign intrigue. That was truly a miss of our underestimation.
We knew you smirked because you knew you knew things we could never know. Which in Rumsfeld speak is to say you had known knowns of our unknowns. What we didn't know you knew about our ignorance is that you had the capacity to accept, on the advice of counsel, that the Geneva Conventions were quaint anachronisms that were of no concern to your remodeling of world orderliness.
Few of us would have figured on that underestimation of your inability to maintain the honor of the United States amongst those old cheese and chocolate makers who contributed so much of the ethics of so called western civilized nations. That was truly a miss of our underestimation.
And who among us could have guessed at the time of your historic (but formally not precedent setting) appointment that the best selling CD in Iraq in the spring of 2004 would include images of the sexual humiliation of Iraqi men and women by American soldiers and military "contractors?"
You see George, we expected something like an attack on abortion rights based on the inherent dignity and humanity of ALL life beginning with conception.
Silly us.
As it turns out, your view of the dignity of all humans was ..., ah, just inconceivable to us. That was truly a miss of our underestimation.
Well, Georgie, we apologize for our lack of insight and promise to make up for it in early November.
