a rhetorical question
Exactly why is it that even when one draws the big political comparisons of the Republican party to the Nazi party (I am talking about politics, canvassing the media, political propaganda, closed government, nationalism (Natianalismus, that's the German word origin, pronounced with a 'z'), foreign boogiemen, etc.), that the repugs get so completely outraged?

Some of their political methods are pretty much exactly what Hitler used in his rise to power. Without attempting the rather adolescent actual comparison of Bush to Hitler, there are nonetheless valid historical similarities in how both administrations operate.

So why do even reasonably intelligent repugs get positively insane and irrational when you bring it up?

1. Well, simply because "Hitler" and "Nazi" are reactionary words...
And when anybody uses them in comparison to Bush or the neo-Cons, they're essentially *asking* for a visceral reaction.

Look, I got no love lost for Bush - my original sig line on DU was banned because it had a "pro assassination" tilt to it. That said...

It makes me cringe when anybody, here or otherwise, compares Bush and his cronies to the Nazis because it is simply too easy to write that sort of crap off as the imbelicic ramblings of a reactionary. Put simply, it makes it easy to discount that person's opinion because Nazis have become the modern-day Bogey man. It's like a Freeper saying Gore/Kerry is pro-al Quaeda. It's just so stupid that you can discount the entire catlog of that person's values because they've clearly gone off the deep end.

Anyhoo, just my opinion.

4. they choose lots of reactionary words to react to though
it lets them set the topic. I dislike reactionaries myself, but my point is that I don't think a subject should be taboo merely because somebody thinks it's a bad debating strategy (which it is).

Yes the danger of the old "ad hominim" argument always lurks in any conversation with a neo-con, but I've never been omnipotent enough to expect that I would ever be taken seriously by a neo con in either case, even when stating a fact as simple as the sky is blue. If some neocon wanted to tell me I was talking crap and was an imbecile because I said the sky was blue, well then so be it.

As a historical question though, I suppose it is a topic best reserved for the cool non-bias of historical scholarly examination, and not political discussion. The same people who are personally offended by that are also offended by the discovery of the existence of brothels in Pompeii or (gasp) nude greek statues, and invariably cancel their National Geographic and Archaeological Odyssey subscriptions in a huff.

2. They get outraged because
not only do they follow Nazi policies, they follow Nazi ideals. And they're financed by the same fortunes that financed the Nazi rise. They get outraged because the accusation is accurate.
