Here's more evidence Bush's announcement on Monday that Abu Ghraib will be razed was premature at best. (See yesterday's column.)

Elisabeth Bumiller writes in the New York Times: "On Monday night, President Bush made the dramatic announcement that the United States would demolish Abu Ghraib prison and build a modern maximum-security center in Baghdad to replace it. But on Wednesday, Pentagon officials said the president's words had taken them by surprise, and they scrambled without success to come up with details of the plan. . . .

"A White House official said Wednesday that it had been Mr. Bush's idea to insert the prison announcement into his speech Monday. . . . "

Listen: being currently unemployed, I spend a large amount of time on this computer. To relieve some of the pressure between online resume submissions, I read the news and, lately, participate in this forum. Lately, however, I have begun to be just as irritated by what I discover about our government as I am with the application procedures that most companies and schools use to screen me out without ever having to talk to me. If I don't start playing in a band soon, I will go totally "bunny pants," as one of the DU members has often said.

Now, I don't like to complain. Many people have it much, much, worse.

I guess there is one upside to all of this: Mr. Bush will be unemployed soon, too.

They hinted, said that they would. That's enough for the Freepers and the media. So in effect, problem solved, prison gone.

Just like funding for AIDS, funding for NO child Left Behind.
