I hate people from orange county. a testimony to my hatred...
First a little background info. I take algerbra 2 at the high school and I'm in eighth grade. I have Kerry/Edwards stickers on my math book that i carry around because i have to. i could only get one copy from the high school so i have to take it to both schools. I missed the bus today and i was waiting for my friend's mom to pick us up. My friend's little sister's friend came up to us and said "What the fuck, you like Kerry?" So I said "Well, he's kind of right wing for my tastes but he's a hell of a lot better than bush." She says "No he's not, he's an asshole." and my friend says "What has he done that's so bad?" She replies (of course not having any political knowledge) "well, what has bush done?" Even my friend, who hates politics, and I began listing reasons why he was a bad president. We landed on gay marriage in the end and she instantly said "we can't have gay people getting married." At this point we began screaming "There's nothing wrong with gay people!" "yes, they can't have children and will decrease the population!" "What kind of logic is that!?" "If gays get married, then the world will turn gay and there won't be a world left!" "You are a homophobe!" "WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?! IM NOT GAY!" "I called you a homophobe, not a homo." "What the hell is a homophobe?" "Someone who is afraid of gays." "Just shut up, you fag." "Even if I was gay there wouldn't be anything wrong with me." "Yes, there would! My mom told me this you fucking idiot. She's a whole lot smarter than you!" Then my butts in, "Do you know anything about politics?" "What's a politic?" So I say, "Stop talking about things you don't understand." And then, of course, she says "I don't want to talk to you, you're wrong."

Luckily, my friend's mom came and I didn't end up killing that girl.

I hate Orange County........

22. Those two activist kids who worked on the Kucinich campaign are from OC
Any right winger who gets into a discussion about politics with Alexandar is in trouble. Alexandar told me about one set he was working on. The movie was called "Sleepover" and an unusual number of homeschooled kids were working on the set and a lot of them were from right-wing families. Apparently, between takes, the kids got into a discussion about Iraq and George W. Bush and the pro-war kids didn't have any facts. So Alexandar gave them an education and the pther kids wound up agreeing that Bush was a bad guy and the war was a bad thing.

Natasha, the younger of the two, convinced Republicans to vote for Gore when she was nine years old.

According to these two kids, you just need to present facts and people and other kids are relatively easy to convert.

Just hang in there. As far as I can tell, kids are more effective messengers than adults. You certainly are not alone in OC. Perhaps you ought to link up with some of the other Democratic kids in your area.

25. I'm already convincing people that bush is the bad guy :P
I met my friend Samantha this year who really encouraged me to get into politics. I already knew I was a Democrat/Liberal but now i know a lot more. Unfortunatley kids just regurgitate what their parents tell them, so it's hard to convince them anything since they have no idea what theyre talking about in the first place.

31. That's great.
I've noticed that Democratic kids tend to think more for themselves though. I go to the protests at Costa Mesa on Friday and there are often kids there who are absolutetly brilliant.

I suspect that Republican kids would mostly switch if they did their own thinking.

24. That mindset can go both ways, though.
At least you can articulate your position (very impressive in this day and age); I meet supposed Democrats all the time who cannot tell me why they identify with the party.

Don't worry--she'll either come around, or lose interest in the outside world altogether.

By the way, happy 8th grade graduation! With your level of social awareness, you should consider being in or starting an underground 'zine at your high school. Stir up some controversy! Whatever you do, don't try to assimilate by killing your sense individuality. Veer from the herd.

At a League of Women Voters discussion in International Relations & Politics, one fellow said that a good side effect of the invasion of Iraq was that there was no more torture. He didn't even recognize the words "Abu Ghraib"! The other Poli Sci classes are filled with people even more rightist, misinformed, and just plain stupid. One bearded neocon barged in and shouted that Gore's popular total is bigger than Bush's only if you counted Puerto Rico, Guam, etc. OC is beyond delusional and just outright hallucinatory!
