Recall the recall right now!!

http://recallwatch.lobbyingcentral.com/faqs.php

According to my interpretation of CA law, there is no provision to prevent a candidate who attains the Governorship through a recall election from being similarly recalled themselves. Some have argued on this board that doing so would be stooping to Rethug tactics and should be avoided. The possibility of creating an endless sequence of recalls would be too much of a mess to ever be worth the cost.

But what if we didn't wait? What we nipped this ugliness in the bud? What if we collected enough signatures right now to show that if Scharzenegger is elected, he will be recalled the second he is sworn in to office.

Let it be known in advance that the same treatment will await any candidate who attempts to back into the Governorship in a similar underhanded manner.

Let it be known in advance, before the debacle gets even more out of hand, that the recall law is poorly written, unfair, and must be changed immediately.

Perhaps if the rerecall was an absolute certainty we could:
convince the voters to vote NO on the recall issue,
convince the pretenders that mounting a campaign would be futile and to possibly drop out,
and convince the legislators that changing the laws to something that resembles fairness, is the only way to stop the madness.

Terminate the Terminator. One million signatures right now, could save tens of millions of dollars tomorrow.

If something like this isn't already underway, it should be. What do you think?

1. not a bad idea
San Fran Mayor Willie Brown has already stated that he feels it'd be his "civic duty" to attempt to recall any replacement candidate that wins the election.

I posted an article about this a few weeks ago but can't find it now.

2. Do you remember if the effort is already underway?
Or is he waiting until Davis is recalled to start the signature process?

4. Ol' Willie made me proud that day!
I'd forgotten about this. He basically stated that it was a done deal. He (and others) would absolutely run a recall on the next repub. Hope they stick with it.

3. Some points
Hey FF! Great idea and many have been mentioning the possibility of recalling the next Republican Gov'r. Here's the technical problem with starting the processs before this next election. I believe the recall law states you need a certain number of signatures based on x% of the last gubernatorial election. That should be the recall election. Could be very low turnout so you may only need half as many signatures as the first recall required.

My advice is to just wait till the recall election plays itself out. I'm all for being on top of things, but this may just be moving too soon.

6. The point is to send a message.
Don't let them think for a single second that they will be able to take the Governorship in this manner.

One million signatures should be enough to send that message, and it should also be enough to ensure another recall.

5. This is a plan that has been talked about
Democrats should have a plan to try to get the governorship back should the Republicans steal it. So far, recalling the theif seems like part of that plan.

8. Because legally
you may just have to gather all 1 million signatures AGAIN. I also feel like the effort would be better spent on stopping the current coup rather than admitting defeat and planning the next battle. I do not think this recall election is already lost. Davis may still win, and if he loses, we can still get Bustamante in.

The republicans are not very organized right now (neither are Dems for that matter), they're split (between Arnie and Simon) and Dems only have one real candidate. Arnie has nowhere to go but down in terms of poll numbers. I think Dem chances are very good here. I also think that a POWERFUL message would be sent if Dems come out winners in this election. The damage this would do to the CA republican party, on top of it's major ass-whoopin' in the last election would be fatal. The party would be on the ropes for decades.

Let's not concede defeat.

9. But this will help stop the coup...

I don't believe in taking chances. After Florida and Texas, I am absolutely certain that the Rethugs will fight dirty.

I'm suggesting a pre-emptive strike. Why let Arnold's nomination gather steam? They are getting ALL of the publicity right now. It's time to generate some of our own.

Also, I'm not legally sure if the signatures gathered in advance of the election could be used for a recall. But I don't think it will be difficult to recollect them. The actual number should be far less than a million.

11. Good question!
Unfortunately, we're not quite at that stage yet. So far you are the only DU'er who even thinks this is a good idea.

It will be ugly, but yes, you can sign to recall Arnold right now.
Until then , please join the effort to get out the NO vote:

14. We should be out in the streets, as we were before the Iraq invasion...
The recall has a circus atmosphere, and is the subject of many jokes, but the Republicans have one goal in mind -- a one-party system, and California would be a big step for them toward that end.

We need to turn our power on, like we did prior to the Iraq invasion; and no, we didn't halt that travesty, but the world stood with us. Let's start writing letters, e-mails, making phone calls, and begin organizing.

We need to stop this thing in its tracks -- we're in the political fight of our lives.
