In Theory, Dean COULD Raise As Much Money As Bush
If you figure Dean has about 100,000 die-hard supporters who will donate to his campaign, and by the time the primaries are done and if he's the nominee he could see upwards of half a million donating supporters.

And they each eventually doll out the maximum $2,000...

Do the math

100,000 x $2,000 = $200,000,000

Or even if they just gave $1,000

100,000 x $1,000 = $100,000,000

Plus whatever support the usual Dem fatcat doners could give...

Dean could match Bush in monetary support.

Is this likely?

I don't know. What do you think?

1. I don't think so
There aren't that many people who will give the maximum. It is a tiny percentage of the contributions, most give under $80, that is what Dean said the other day.

As far as Dean raising as much as * goes, not a chance. The deck is stacked against ALL the Dem candidates moneywise, and you know what?It won't matter...all the money in the world cannot save the BFEE.

I will explain my non issues reasons: A terrific work ethic in Congress for most if not all the votes and he is true sucess story, he was born poor, but became a city councilman young, and mayor at 31, and the issues well they explain themselves.

6. over the course of the campaign they could
Not $2,000 in one shot

But if they give $50-$75 a month until the election one could reach $2,000.

5. You got the right idea.

If Dean has a million people plugged into his campaign by next November, and each of them gives $100, Dean has a warchest of $100,000,000.00 from rank'n'file Democrats alone. That's not counting the union, corporate and trial lawyer money he would receive as well.

edit: Dean gets federal matching funds for every contribution under $250, so double that.

8. well the good news is, we're more flexible.
The average internet contribution to Dean is $52. Bush tends to collect the maximum from each donor. So theoretically we can get up to $1948 more from each donor on our list. In a chat with Joe Trippi yesterday,he floated the idea that each of the current vols donate 10 bucks. That's 25 million dollars right there. And plenty of room for more.

In theory we COULD outdo Bush in fundraising. But the way things are going, we probably won't have to. :)
