Perhaps a poll might ask ; Who would you rather be in combat with?

1. Who would you rather partner with on Jeopardy?
Unless, of course, the categories were Damn Foolishness, Stupid Baseball Trades, Frumpy Wives, Incompetence, Evil Foreign Policy Decisions, and Show Tunes.

2. Make a poll, kentuck. Who would you want in a foxhole, Bush or Kerry?
I'd laugh if just ONE guy from the NRA voted for Bush. Kerry is a crack shot.

8. Tough choice. Really.
Bush would foolishly "cowboy up" and start shooting at anything that moves. Including his own men.

Kerry would be all gung-ho during the briefing at HQ, but would complain with the rest of the grunts--about how the brass doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. All the while, polishing his bars...

Then again, maybe he wouldn't.

11. Electing John Kerry will save our troops from needless death
Then again, maybe he won't. I suppose it all depends if you are an officer at HQ or infantry in a foxhole.

12. Looked to me like he risked his life for ANY soldier that needed it.
Edited on Fri May-28-04 03:13 PM by blm
I don't think he asked for rank before he saved lives.

He also helped to END three wars. I have no doubt he can come up with the best case exit strategy for Iraq as well.

14. How did Kerry help start a war?
He's not the Chief Executive and he's not a member of the majority party. Are you saying that Kerry's vote on the enabling legislation for Iraq in October 2002 "helped start" the Iraq war six months later? Would you then say that everyone who didn't actively stop George W. Bush from illegally seizing office in 2000-01 would then be equally culpable for "helping start" the Iraq war? Why or why not?

18. John Kerry can't have it both ways.
I knew the moment Bush was selected, we would be at war in the Middle East sooner or later. The PNAC agenda demands it. Many folks here at DU saw it clearly, too.

If a 30-year Washington insider like John Kerry couldn't figure out that the IWR was the vehicle in which to help execute the deluded Neo-Con wet dream, then the man is not up to the challenge of leading this nation.

So which is it: Was John Kerry confused, naive, or complicit (with regards to political opportunism?)

19. That still doesn't make the IWR itself wrong.
But then, some people have a vested interest in making it appear as if it was the IWR that is to blame and not Bush's failure to implement it honestly.

23. Right. And up until that point...
Edited on Fri May-28-04 05:39 PM by DemsUnite
The heavy-handed "with us or against us" administration gave us no reason to doubt that they wouldn't misuse, misinterpret or abuse the support (power) legislated for their use.

So I take it you are leaning toward "naive" as your explanation as to why John Kerry voted for the IWR?

(edited for clarity)

24. No. He voted for a RESOLUTION which should have been implemented.
YOU want to let Bush off the hook by blaming the IWR. That just plays into their goal.

I resist your characterizations and note they benefit only Bush.

25. Does this help?:
For the record, "DemsUnite" recognizes that George Walker Bush and the members of his administration ruthlessly and methodically planned and executed an illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. For their roles in the destruction of a sovereign nation and the murder of its citizens, each and every senior member involved with the decision should be charge, tried and convicted of international war crimes.

Off the hook? Hardly. "On a noose" is more like it.

a horrible/deceitful/murderous/lier and take on the RESPONSIBILITY
of actually starting a war an murdering thousands. So I guess you were right...too naive and didn't understand how evil our own president was.

16. The IWR did NOT start the Iraq war. Only Bush enablers say it did
Edited on Fri May-28-04 04:57 PM by blm
because they don't want Bush to have to accept the blame for NOT implementing the IWR in good faith.

Had the IWR been implemented honestly, the weapons inspections would have contuniued and proven that force was unnecessary to disarm Iraq. Bush rushed into war because he wanted it. He also could have done so WITHOUT a resolution at all.

4. Kerry either way.
Hell, I'd rather go to a bbq with Kerry too. Or be trapped in an elevator. He might be stiff, but he's not a raging moron like the *. I have almost exactly zero patience for stupidity or self-righteousness. Arrogance too, come to think of it.

bush hit the trifecta on that one.

Or something else? Gotta wonder.

"Who would you rather have working with you on a school project about foreign policy?"

Seems a small step to "Who would you rather have directing foreign policy," but there could be diplomatic barbecues involved, so... I dunno.

34. i sent this to olderman and matthews
told husband last night what you said. who would you rather go in combat. and he made a funny almost disgusted face at me.........

texan, lifetime republican, from midland, gun toten nra card carrier. actually he ripped up card about 5 years ago, and is voting kerry

he came home last night and couldnt wait to tell me, in his non activist mellow self, he told a male rn about my obsessiveness with this war. a promonate doctor office. and the guy said, i voted bush last time, but what happened with the prisoners, disgusting. totally took down who americans are. cant vote for him

anyway the obvious answer for husband was kerry, like any doubt

people like my husband is the one that can talk it with his fellow manly men in non offensive. the males get afraid of me when i start talking
