1. The point of Medicaid is for people who have no assets. If people
have assets, then they are supposed to use them to cover their care. I think it's great that they were able to keep their home while they were alive. However, using Medicaid means that they have been running up a debt and if they have assets after their death then the estate should be paying its debts.

That's true for other kinds of debts.

I'm sorry about this, but it's only fair.

Why would people think that the taxpayer should pay for their care and they shouldn't have to pay for it?

Oh yeah, the old "socialize the risk and privatize the profit" mantra. Must be Republicans if they don't want to accept responsibility for their debts.

3. Why?
"Why would people think that the taxpayer should pay for their care and they shouldn't have to pay for it?"

Because it's what a compassionate society does for its elderly citizens.

Have you forgotten the debate on prescirption medicines just recently?

Prescription Meds are very expensive.

And now we have a new system in which all taxpayers get to pay to help cover the costs of prescription medications.
