Why won't the McCain VP rumors die out?
I've seen John McCain emphatically deny that he is going to join Kerry on the Democratic ticket. He has gone on the record serveral times about this, including stating it on MTP and various other venues. Who is keeping this nonsense alive and why?

1. The RNC media to insult, demoralize us (Dems unable to win, govern)
Indirect proof:

GOP pollster Luntz revealed Limbaugh's role in new survey
http://mediamatters.org/items/200405250004

Republican pollster Frank Luntz, CEO and president of Luntz Research Companies, appeared as a guest on the May 21 FOX News Channel's Hannity & Colmes to present the results of his new poll that purportedly showed that a plurality of Democrats say if they had the choice they would prefer Senator Hillary Clinton over Senator John Kerry as their presidential nominee. Luntz admitted radio host Rush Limbaugh had a role in instigating the survey

2. same thing happened with Hillary...
Remember that fucking question they were asking until last December?

"And now, imagine Hillary Clinton decides to throw her hat in the ring! Would you vote for her?"

3. The far right wants McCain
They know Bush is gone. Put McCain in the number two slot, and then Kerry has an unfortunate accident or heart attack. Voila, another right wing president to oppress us all!

Sweet, huh?

6. The far right hates McCain

Just look at what Hastert said about him last week. They can't stand seeing someone call themselves a Republican and then do things like vote outside party lines, co-sponsor a bill with a Democrat and put loyalty the the Country first and Political Party second. That's why they wouldn't let him have the nomination in 2000, and there's no way they'll ever groom him to be President. Besides, do you really think a President McCain would oppress us the way Bush is? He wouldn't side with the huge corporations over the will of the American people.

4. Because Democratic BigWigs keep mentioning his name favorably
Biden, Clinton, Clinton, Kerry, Gephardt etc. all mention him favorably from time to time, including his treatment at the hands of the Bushies in the 2000 campaign. McCain isn't gonna push back because if Kerry does pick a Republican for his cabinet, McCain would be a logical choice. I think McCain wants to be Sec. of Defense.

In my opinion it is a good strategy. Associating a popular Republican with Kerry is not a bad idea, for a while. It'll die down as the summer wears on.

7. My boyfriend speculated that it is kept alive by some democrats
to show that Kerry is willing to compromise and that Bush is the divider and Kerry the Uniter. This way he might get some of those Republicans who don't want to vote for Bush to vote for him. Something like "it is time to put all the partisan politics behind us and start taking care of America"

I'd personally rather have Kerry kick ass and be a little be more like Dean.
