Why do liberals watch Fox News??????
The thought always crosses my mind when I read the threads like, "O'Reilly just lied about " or "Hannity just said ."

Don't you realize you're helping to perpetuate the lie? When your TV is tuned to that station, their ratings go up.

24. Pox News
Fox "News" is NOT the other side of the argument. Its muck-raking, rabble rousing propoganda. That sort of thing is important to the cheap-labor corporate Conservative's power base, but its not their "argument". In any case they are not interested in argueing, just entrenching their own power and getting even richer.

Progressives need to come up with a way to counter this garbage and try and get a few more people to see through the lies and act in their own (and everyone else's) interest instead the interests of those of giant multi-national corporations.

5. They will say "to know the enemy"
I think that if you don't know the enemy by now you must have a cognitive functioning problem.

There have been days when I log in and all the threads are about Faux, Newsmax, Freakrepublic, etc. It is almost like the link section at a Right Wing website.

I love the people who post links to progressive news sites, and political analysis from a leftist perspective.

6. i couldn't agree more!!!!!!!!
sgr2, thanks for posting!

i've asked this several times on here, and the typical response is: "oh well, i just wanna see what they're saying."

my response: "who the FUCK cares what the fuck they're saying!!"

lotta folks here don't realize that every minute they watch fox news, they're helping fox pay the bills... they are, like you say, perpetuating the lie...

i've been fox news free for almost 2 years now... and am much happier because of it...

32. I agree
To put it in perspective, the Chimp is a puppet whose master is Dick Cheney and his cronies. Delay is NOT a puppet; he is a puppet master who currently has his hands up the backsides of Rick "Goodhair" Perry, Republican House leader Tom Craddick, AND TX Lieutenant Gov. David Dewhurst in keeping them pushing the atrocious re-redistricting plans Delay wants to be implemented, over and over and over again. I seriously think DeLay is possibly the most powerful TX politician of the moment (outside of the Chimp, of course, if he is considered to be a real Texan) and that makes him very dangerous. I don't believe DeLay could ever be elected President, though... then again, they * succeeded at selling himself as a "moderate" to millions of misinformed Americans so perhaps anything's possible...

33. Curiously, I am beginning to think that "fundamentalist" isn't....
the proper word to use to describe these (and other) people. After all, fundamental really means basic. I would rather use the word "extremist" instead. That makes a better case, y'think?

9. It's just funny
It is kind of funny to see what they pass off as "news"... they take stuff that is pure right-winged propaganda and pass it along as facts. Of course, if you ask any conservative, Faux News IS fair and balanced, I've even heard some say that it is just another piece of the (non-existant) "liberal media."

what about their outright propagandizing of the right wing movement? let me guess, that's a riot, too?

18. That is funny
I was cracking up when I was watching "Fox and Friends" the day after the French sent troops to the Congo, and the guy hosting the show said "But, that doesn't excuse them for their bad behavior." I started cracking up after hearing that, also it is funny the way they call themselves a news channel.

23. Didn't say I liked it
Yes, Fox News is funny... and to be quite honest, I RARELY watch Fox News, maybe just once a month... but I don't think that you understand what I mean. What I am saying is that they essentially make a joke of themselves, and anybody that has any intelligence at all knows that it is a lie. I didn't mean to imply (as you thought I did) that I think it is funny that they are spreading bad propaganda and making Bush sound better than he really is. That's just sad there... but for somebody like me, I like to see the joke operation in action from time to time.

10. How do their ratings go up when my tv is tuned to that station?
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 09:33 PM by ryharrin
Do they have gnomes sitting in my tv reporting to them? I was under the impression that ratings come from Nielsen ratings, which people have to actually fill out (I did it once, it was a pain in the ass). Can they tell what you're watching through cable now?

on edit: sorry, that first line is a bit overly sarcastic, just got back from the bars with my friends.

14. You don't change their ratings unless you are a Nielsen (sp?)
family. To the best of my knowledge, there is no giant automatic computer somewhere monitoring what is on every TV in the country.

I don't watch it myself, because it tends to raise my blood pressure, and I don't know how anyone here can do it, either.

But it doesn't affect ratings.

By the way, I've been meaning to tell you for some time: OUTSTANDING gif in your sig!!!

If I want to see Nazi-style propaganda, I'll dust off some transcripts of old Goebbels speeches.

I completely agree that people who watch Faux help pay their bills.

Again, if I want to pay the bills of Bushevik propaganda, I can just send $20 to Uncle Karl and the TNC (Totalitarian National Committee).

Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 10:50 PM by Ein
I would get endless entertainment from watching them spin the protests...

They'd hit on huge anti-war protests and only shop cops handcuffing people. Then they'd give 3x as much attention to a small pro-war 'protest' (the fact that some of them called it a protest is a tribute to thier idiocy... unless they were protesting our freedom of speech, then... "if you don't like it, git out" lol)

I still listen to Rush at work for an hour at most anyday. It's interesting to refute his arguments in my mind, the guy could rival Goebbels.

If you know the enemy

If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will
succumb in every battle.

Actually, I can't stomach five minutes of Faux shit. I feel it somehow makes me a participant in their 24/7/52 propaganda for Bu$hCo and the right wing. You know exactly where each story will go, and how it will pan out -- Democrats/liberals are ALWAYS the enemy, and Clinton is their god.

Faux is exploiting the same fear-filled mindset that fundamentalist televangelists use -- you, the conservative, are good (because we have God and morals on *our* side), and godless liberals are the enemy, and are therefore "evil"; that "evil" *could* win at any time, so be on the alert, it's everywhere, you (the freeper) are endangered at every turn, so be strong and fight like hell.

To bad that there are so many fearful and ignorant people out there who actually believe this horse-flop.
