3. I wonder if they will be able to do conduct a cerremony on June 30
I wonder if they will be able to do conduct a cerremony on June 30, with a cheering crowd thrilled at supposed "sovereignty," to turn the numbers around.

Someone posted that CNN is doing a countdown-to-sovereignty to try to make the non-event seem like a big deal.

5. Watch this: after the break he is going to try to "define" who Kerry is.
Before the program started, the snip said "he wanted to be president since he was a child." Is he implying this goal is a bad goal?

I really, really dislike Matthews tone today.

6. Today?
That's what he did 5 days per week throughout Campaign 2000. Grudge----hold a GRUDGE!----and never be mislead by the infrequent CRUMB he throws our way.

Too bad he's got a larger audience with the network show than with Hardball, where, as Darrel HAMMOND said, cracking himself up while "doing" Tweezer, "For the -----FIFTY-------people watching this show..."

8. Chris: why does he talk like a "Brahmin?" Matthews is such a jerk.
Brooks: criticizing Kerry's father's book and saying if you grew up in a household like this you would not have a realistic view of the world or something of the sort.

7. The five most recent incumbents to be reelected never dipped below
50% job approval ratings. Dubya's numbers are similar to Jimmy Carter's in 1980, and lower than his dad's this time in 1992. In fact, Carter's approval ratings in February of 1980 were at 58%. Dubya's were at 48% at the end of January, and he has been dropping steadily since then. he is now down to 42% in the Zogby poll. Conventional wisdom shows that when an incumbent starts a steady decline in approval ratings, it is very difficult to regain the public's support. Also, typically, you can expect an incumbent's percentage of the vote to pretty much match his approval ratings.

Unfortunately, displeasure with the incumbent does not always translate into a vote for the challenger (often these folks just stay home). This election is in John Kerry's hands. The voters are displeased with Bush; now Kerry needs to give them a reason to show up at the polls in Novemeber and vote for him.
