Anti-elitists embracing .... Dennis Miller ??????

I'm kinda amazed at this. All these people against "fancy shmanzy" elitists are now fans of Dennis Miller.

To me, Dennis Miller is one of the most smug condescending pricks in the world. What makes it worse, is he's really not as smart as he thinks he is.

Dennis Miller pounds people over the head with obscure facts from books that he happens to read. He tries to make everyone else look stupid because they haven't read the same material. This is what an "elitist" does. He browbeats and brags instead of educating and discussing.

By contrast, your typical university "elitist" does quite a bit of educating and nurturing. They don't just "assume" that everybody should know about an article they just read. They INFORM someone of it and draw inferences.

For the right, Dennis Miller may be the ultimate hypocrisy. An elitist psuedo-intellectual wannabe who is against elitism.

2. Miller is a Bozo
His lame pseudo-intellectualizing repeatedly betrays itself. He is such a putz he mistakes cleverness for intelligence and longwinded, fast talking for a quick wit.

He is a moron...I put a joke about him on The Sludge Report...and it bugs me that I haven't taken it down. Maybe I should.

3. So, - you're identifying with the anti-elitists?
Except in that they're embracing Dennis Miller while you feel that to remain pure y'all should shun him. Is that what you're trying to say?

5. No ...

In my book, an "elitist" is someone who always acts in a way that reinforces their relative merit above others. It's perfectly possible to be immensly authoritive and being humble about it. Different people are experts in different things.

People who are knowledgeable about subjects of public debate are being criticized by the likes of Anne Coulter because they are intelligent and accomplished. They are knowledgeable and authoritive in their field. When asked for their assesment, they give it.

Contrast this with conservative pundits in general who are largely ignorant about details but heavy on rhetoric. Aren't THEY the ones who are the "elitists". They brought it up.

Dennis Miller is so emblamatic of this phenomenom because his schtic has always been taking esoteric historical details and making fun of people becuase they didn't know about them. THAT ... is an elitist. I read a book, therefore I'm better than you.

Academics ARE very competitive within their field. But you'll have to look hard to find a thesis that says "I'm more important than a farmer or electrician because I write books." That's not the point of an academic. Especially one who TEACHES.

I don't think that conservatives should shun Dennis Miller. I think they should shun ALL the right-wing nut cases. Dennis miller is just the tip of the Iceberg. But he's the most blatant of their fradulent natures.
