Question re: Judith Miller
Now that she's in the spotlight (again), I've been wondering about something.

When news first broke of the planes hitting the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, the name that immediately came to my mind was Osama bin Laden. This was not because I was particularly savvy when it came to "terrorists" or world events, in fact, quite the opposite. I was fairly ignorant pre-9/11.

The reason I immediately thought of bin Laden was because not very long before September 11, I happened across a biographical/documentary-type program (it may have been 60 Minutes, but the more I think about it, it seems like it might have been on Discovery, or some similar channel) devoted to bin Laden, and the "expert" interviewed throughout the entire program was none other than Judith Miller.

Does anyone else remember such a program, and if so, do you find the timing of it a bit coincidental, in retrospect?

1. She wasn't the only one...
Osama's name started to pop up after Clinton tried to blow him up.

Yossef Bodansky wrote a whole book about him, published in 1999.

Anti-fascist researcher started to drop his name a bit in 2000 and 2001.

Unfortunately, the neocons were obsessed with the conspiracy theories of right-wing fantasy authors like http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=13323|Laurie Mylorie>, which took their focus off Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, and allowed to them to succesfully attack the WTC.

Bodansky isn't a great alternative to Mylorie, but he is still much better informed than she is.
