Texan is Libertarians' presidential candidate
Associated Press
ATLANTA -- Michael Badnarik, a computer programmer from Texas, won the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination today.

Badnarik, 49, of Austin, defeated former Hollywood movie producer Aaron Russo on the convention's third ballot, after former radio host Gary Nolan, who was eliminated on the second ballot, endorsed Badnarik.

"If I can win the nomination, there's no reason I can't win this election," Badnarik told a cheering convention that drew more than 800 delegates.

Badnarik teaches a course in constitutional law.

Formed in 1971, the Libertarian Party stresses the rights of individuals over the power of government, and a foreign policy of noninterference. It claims nearly 600 elected officials nationwide, almost entirely in city or county positions, and has been on the presidential ballot in all 50 states for the last three elections.

2. I would be..
he agrees with the greens/socialists on msot issues, and is bit more RADICAL in his ideas on fighting the military & the draft...and he definately wants to end the drug war and throw Ashcroft behind bars...the man can definately articulate his message. I don't think he will be pulling many conservative votes though. The pukes HATE them for their stance on gay marriage and abortion rights (pro both).

I think working on the local level would certainly be fun, but I may not have the time so I don't know what I could do..

3. I noticed the LP does a lot of harm in Congressional races

as opposed to POTUS Election. For example, Harry Reid and Jim THune were reelected in part because of a Lib candidate. Yet the LP can't field a decent POTUS candidate.

4. I must admit I voted for a Libertarian in 2002's congressional race.
During that time I was in Adam Smith's congressional district. I did not care for Adam Smith's DINO like stanceon the issues and so I made it my duty to vote against him for my displeasure. He won the election anyway.

I would do it for the experience...besides, I REALLY don't think any Republicans could support this guy. Oddly enough, the only people supporting him are those that LOATHE Bush..on both sides! The Libertarians are hardcore social liberals and hardcore economic conservatives, so each sides LOVEs them and HATES them for different reasons!..quite a predicament really. I think the votes they take are going to be an equal drain to right and left, though in 2000, I believe their candidate running for Senate in South Dakota got 3500 votes, and Tob Daschle won the race by only 500...so a lot of pubs blamed the LP for that.

6. That was Jim Thune, not Daschle
But hopefully the LP will screw over Plains Repugs again. They're a silent spoiler, since most of their damage has been done in Congressional races.

7. Then maybe you should take that Kucinich icon off of your profile.
....and change your handle to "libertarian and proud".

"....he agrees with the greens/socialists on most issues..."

Oh, I'm sure...

8. look at his website
on every social issue..on every foreign policy issue, he has been consistently with the left wing parties...anti war from the beginning...against the patriot act from the beginning...against the fundies and neocons at every turn. he stands with the left for gay marriage and choice...He only begins to part on economic issues, but nobody is perfect.

....I doubt you will get many Democrats to jump ship for a libertarian, as we see the big picture here.

But, good try at bait and switch. That seems to be libertarian strategey now, huh?
