Dave the Brave: Stupid President Tricks can only be seen on Letterman
http://www.laweekly.com/ink/printme.php?eid=53105

Leno may be the ratings winner. Stewart is the critics' darling. But, day in and day out, Letterman is the hands-down leader when it comes to unabashed Bush bashing. One reason is that his Late Show has the brass balls to go where the cowardly White House news corps and corporate suck-up Leno fear to tread: presenting Dubya in all his dumb-ass glory.

During their workweek, executive producer Rob Burnett and his octet of writers often begin their morning by wondering, What's George W. doing today? So they glance through his schedule and look for an interesting presidential public appearance. Then they contact CBS News or the local affiliate for the Bush raw footage and examine it in a process that often induces stupefying boredom. "We start out having no idea it will yield anything," Burnett tells L.A. Weekly. "We put it on only if it's funny. It's not, 'Oh, it's Wednesday and we need Bush footage.'"

But the end result is really something. Enough fodder for the show to spotlight snarky segments like "George W. Bush: Inspiration to America" featuring the president flippantly telling a classroom, "Look, I didn't like to take tests either, but that's too bad." Or, wearily listening to a business speech, nodding like a bobble-head doll and repeatedly checking his watch. (Déjà vu, anyone? Remember Daddy Bush checking his watch during the 1992 debates, a move that helped cost him the election?)....

2. We need more people like Dave and Jon. I never used to watch
Letterman, in fact really didn't like him. How things change! I turn him on every night now. I wonder what percent of his audience will not vote for Bush. Probably 100 % from the sounds of it!

3. We need to make certain there are no clocks
to view from a distance during the debates. DimSon won't be able to resist checking his watch every ten minutes, especially if there is a good baseball game on tv.

But how much you want to bet that the networks switch cameras off him when he does that?

9. The shills will write their post-debate comments that "Bush won"
The shills will write their post-debate comments that "Bush won" before the debate.

No matter what happens during the debates, the media-echo will say "Bush won."

6. Letterman is one very smart cookie, having his own production company

holding near total control over his show. Bless you Dave. You deserve every one of those multi-millions of dollars coming your way. Leno, the unimaginative sell-out, must be quite the disappointment to Johnny by now.

On edit, I think John Stewart's sharp, cutting edge comedy has spurred Letterman on, as well. For a long time, Dave seemed stuck in a rut and not very creative. I'd be willing to bet he has watched Stewart and his success on comedy central with an eye to seeing how much he could get away with on network late night.

7. I kind of half-way saw this week's Letterman promos and

realized it'll be reruns all week, alas.

I refuse to watch Leno because he can't stop telling stale Clinton--the--Womanizer jokes. Dave still tells too many of those lame jokes but Leno is worse.

8. regarding the footage of Bush wiping his glasses on a woman's shirt
http://www.laweekly.com/ink/printme.php?eid=53105

The writer of the article says that howardstern.com has video of Bush wiping his glasses on the shirt of a woman who is an assistant to David Letterman but"doesn't say how the footage was obtained."

My explanation: Letterman broadcast it, Erich Blumich put it on BushFlash.com, and howardstern.com got it from there.
