Michael isnt leaving Abu Ghraib, he just wrote to us
His unit THOUGHT they were leaving, because of that LAME Bush speech about tearing it down, now, they are staying.
Didnt Bush insert that stupid remark about tearing Abu Ghraib down into his speech on his own?? what a moron!!
So, anyone who wants to continue sending packages to Michael's unit who have packages, go ahead and send them.
Because of Bush's ignorant rantings about tearing down Abu Ghraib prison, which he wasnt supposed to say without Congressional approval anyway, this family has been thru hell trying to figure out if we should or shouldnt send packages, and we havent, because we thought Michaels unit was leaving there.
THAT is part and parcel, folks, about how lousy the Bush administration is treating US and the kids over there..like shit!
We are meaningless pawns to them.
In the meantime, if Bush decides to make any more asinine pronouncements about Abu Ghraib, please tell him to go sit on his Imperial Thumb and twist.

2. So Sorry
Mari333,
My thoughts are with you as you wait for Michael to come home. Soon, I hope. At least when my husband was deployed to the first Gulf War and Bosnia we knew he would come home when the government promised. Nowadays the BushCartel doesn't mind lying about everything. I guess they feel, as that old hag Barbara Bush said, that they shouldn't bother their beautiful minds about death over there. And if one more person tells me it's better that we fight the war overseas than here, I'm going to punch them. Of course, most of those morons don't have a loved one over there. My husband is active duty military and so far not deployed this time but I live in dread.
I'd be interested to know how many of Michael's fellow soldiers plan to support Bush in the election. I would proudly display alot of very anti-Bush stickers on my car except for two reasons: my car would probably get vandalized by some ugly Republican and since even military spouses can feel pressured to not criticize the Commander in Thief too harshly I would be afraid someone would pull me over on post. I am disgusted with myself for being a coward, but that's life in the military...I come here to vent.

21. I need to vent too otherwise we all go insane
Edited on Mon May-31-04 10:12 PM by Mari333
venting is healthy...!!!
You have to do it somewhere! When you hold it in, you can make yourself sick.
Also I was anti war before this insane war started...even Michael knew that. I dont have to deal with military personnel and being anywhere near a military installation..I also belong to a group called Band of Mothers, who are parents of kids in this war. They are mad as hell, and taking it to the street soon.
The mothers are mad. So are the fathers.

3. you know...
Edited on Mon May-31-04 12:20 PM by Fullauto
My brother, in the 1st armored division has been shot not once but TWICE in Iraq. One was not so serious, the other was serious enough to send him back to Germany for two months until he went back upon his own accord in February. It isn't easy being related to someone in the military, especially in a combat zone. But the point is, last time I checked, my brother and your husband signed up for it.... From one military family member to another, I know you're pissed, but that is the life of a soldier. If this post pisses you off, sorry... but there is something that gets me about one constantly posting about how horrendous it is their loved one is away from home when he signed up for it! Flame me or ban me, I don't care...

There is something zen-like about accepting life's challenges without the world hearing every detail of it.

Keep your head up.

Peace.

4. No one signed up to be told lies
Maybe some are content to get behind policies that are born of lies. Not me.

6. Well Said
Just because our husbands joined the military doesn't mean we abdicted our right to have opinions!! I support my husband, Michael, and ALL the troops. I don't support the lies that have killed and maimed so many of our brave men and women and all the innocent Iraqis.

not fatten the wallets of Bush's* corporate contributors. The occupation of Iraq violates every honorable aspiration held by every member of the armed forces. Bush* has commited nothing less than Teason by sending our young men and women over there for the benefit of his political cronies.

Discontent is the only thing that motivates anyone to create change. Obviously, we need to hear of and feel even greater discontent in this Nation, because RADICAL changes need to be made NOW!

18. You're right...
not to mention the orders from the TOP to abuse the Iraqis and blame the reserves. We can't let that story die. We want those on TOP to pay for what they've done to the people.

8. It is wonderful that your brother survived.
You must be thankful for that fact.

It is too bad that having a family member in such grave peril has not caused you to gain insight into what is going on in Iraq.

15. Thank you...
Yes, obviously we are all grateful he not only survived but will not have any long-term physical trouble due to his injuries... Thank you for your post.

PS. I don't recall stating my position on the war in my post.

9. Nobody signed up to take part in an illegal war, did they? Maybe...
...they've changed the wording on the papers since I signed up many years ago.

Here's some advice for you...if you don't want to read certain posters' comments, don't click on them. Isn't that the premise behind being Zen-like?

10. Signing up is noble ...
Being used as a plutocratic tool isnt ...

Telling someone to 'shut up' isnt either ...

Ban .. Flame .... who cares ? ...

Bottom line: freedom of speech is dear to those who fight for freedom of speech ...

Those who give it up, whether by choice or by threat, shouldnt bother lifting a finger to defend it ...

I appreciate our soldiers who do their duty ... but damn that person who is misusing that service ...

Damn that man and his minions all to hell ...

14. So NG'smen signed up for overseas duty in Iraq? I don't think so.
They ought to be helping here at home with our 175 tornadoes over the weekend or guarding the airports. I'd even agree that if there was a country that was threatening us, the NG should be deployed. But the liberation of Iraq? Who signed up for that?

Active duty and reserves know that there are idiots in command who might send them into harm's way unnecessarily. But the NG?

I agree that it is very difficult to be related to someone in the military in a combat zone. My family knows the loss. I'm glad that your brother is okay. Our families have earned the right to challenge the decision-makers. We all have that right as well as that obligation.

to go to a war (occupation) based on lies, lies, lies and more lies.
This war (occupation for lucrative contracts for corporations profits who are friends of Bush and his buddies), is a fraud.
Always has been always will be.
Every soldier over there is over there for
nothing.
Period.
and Im sad for every one of the families and for every one of the soldiers who are there.
It never had to happen. It could have been avoided.
I want them all to come home.

11. I'm sorry that Michael has to work in such an awful place
Even if the situation were totally different and not a single American or Iraqi had been killed -- and the recent events at that prison had not happened -- it sounds like an ugly, horrible setting. I am thinking about him and his colleagues, hoping that they will soon be able to come home! Imagine if Bush showed up with a crowbar to pry the place apart himself ... but that would mean having to put up with him and keep him from dropping bricks on his own feet.

23. General Pace said (and it's on tape) that 1AD who had redeployed home...
to Germany wouldn't be returning to Iraq. Pace's "no" was in direct response to a reporter's question. However, the very next day, returned soldiers of the 1AD were packing their bags for a flight back.

Pace lied.
