Lyndon LaRouche : Who is he ? Help me please.
A weird and apparently dangerous french group ( http://solidariteetprogres.online.fr/) presenting a list in the european elections in France is mentioning and endorsing a guy called Lyndon LaRouche who is supposed to run for US presidential elections in november.
I've found informations on the internet of course but I want your opinion and informations DUers. Thank you.

Extreme RW, but self-declared Democrat. :puke:

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/religion/cult/lyndon-larouche/

Pretty much a pseudo-political cult/Sect, active at universities.

Has a Party in Germany as well, there called "BüSo", AKA European Worker's Party AKA Patriots for Germany. (Their agenda is basically Anti-Semitic and pro-nuclear power nonsense.)

3. Total tinfoil hat wack job
nevertheless, he's been right about quite a few things lately, like the heavy Zionist leanings of the neocons responsible for lying us into the war in Iraq.

Of course, a stopped clock is right twice a day.

2. LaRouche is a perennial Presidential candidate
He started out as a socialist, but has evolved into a nazi/fascist. This is his 5th bid for the presidency. He once served jail time for tax evasion. His politics are quite scary - so much so that he is basically ignored as a nut case. His group has been accused of being a cult, and parents of college students who have joined his movement claim that their kids have been told to break all ties with their families. His beliefs are anti-semitic, anti-intellectual, and mirror many of the policies of Nazi Germany.

Here's a pretty good biographical sketch:

15. tax evasion... or credit card fraud?
I thought he did time for credit card fraud - defrauding people who donated to one of his presidential campaigns.

7. Larouche
has been running for dictator since the 1960's. He is, I understand, a birthright Quaker who moved to Marxist-Leninist revolutionism (with a few twists) by the 1950's. He is an intelligent man who worked as a management consultant in operations research (though sometimes "consultant" is jarcon for "can't or won't hold a job.") Under the name of Lyn Marcus (Lenin Marx, get it?) he led a group called the "Labor Committee" in the 1960's and wrote "Dialectical Economics," a rather deep work as Hegelian as it was Marxist in my estimation, and yes, I have read it. The Labor Committee was a group of New Yorkers and when they attended an SDS convention in which infantile leftism took over with chants of "Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh" and "Mao, Mao, Mao Tse-Tung," the Labor Committee chanted "let's go Mets."

That was their point, as far as I am concerned.

The revolutionary moment was past in North America by the 1970's (a Vancouver drug dealer was quoted as saying "The revolution is over and we won") and Larouche resumed his birth-name and led his group into the Democratic Party, whose nomination he has sought ever since, once or twice, I believe, from prison (for peculation).

The program of his group is 1930's technological progressivism -- more industry, energy and technology, and damn the environment -- and, longer term, I believe it calls for the transformation of human nature through genetic engineering. I am not quite sure about the last one. Anyway, this leads to the perception of his position as right-wing, but (I guess this is in his defense) I don't believe his faction has ever championed racism or profiteering. Oh, and he hates Great Britain with an unexplained passion.

9. Among LaRouche's greatest hits
Among LaRouche's greatest hits was a 1986 California ballot proposition which he sponsored calling for the quarantine of AIDS patients. LaRouche stated that it was necessary because AIDS was easy to transmit. Most medical experts, then and now, assert that AIDS is actually easy to prevent. However, LaRouche countered that no one had proved that AIDS isn't transmitted by mosquito bites. Most medical experts, then and now, give little merit to this argument.

We had to spend a great deal of time and money defeating this piece of nonsense that could have been better invested in defeating Republicans.

16. back in the mid eighties - a small group of his supporters
used to appear from time to time in front of the Rayburn House office building (House of Representatives) - picketing with signs advocating quaranteeing (exiling) HIV infected citizens to an isolated Island. This is what they thought the GOVT should be pursuing as policy.

12. This is the scoop on LaRouche as far as I've been able to ascertain
I was asking this question after I met some of his people. Unfortunately, instead of reasonable responses, I received answers to my questions that seemed to be from people on a witchhunt. Don't listen to the parnanoia or the ridiculous accusations. I've never seen him but the nonsense doesn't match where this guy's followers are coming from. They also have a newspaper that makes him sound pretty liberal and not at all like the stories. His partner co-wrote The Unauthorized Biography of George H.W. Bush," which can be found on the Internet. LaRouche was an FDR Democrat who upset a number of people within the Democratic and Republican Party. According to his supporters, those that felt threatened by him, went out of their way to try to make him look like some kind of whacko in order to discredit him. I understand there are some phoney websites up and that people would run around impersonating LaRouche's supporters in order to make him and them look bad. At one point, years ago, (according to his supporters) he was set up on some kind of criminal charge. For this reason alone (even if it was a set-up) it is unlikely that he would ever be President. Also the anti-LaRouche propaganda campaign is so strong that I don't believe he could ever get past it.

A number of his followers are within the Democratic Party power structure. Kucinich was their favorite other candidate. They did not like Dean. They seemed to like Clarke. They seem very happy that Kerry is the likely nominee and they will undoubtedly work hard for Kerry. Some of his followers (apparently) upset about the witchhunt show up at the state conventions with literature. Last year, they peformed some kind of a song in the lobby ouside the convention hall. I saw the end of it when I was coming back from a labor rally. They sounded good.

He seems like a lost cause. But watching the way he and his supporters are treated, I can't help but wonder who is next?

17. Are you doubting
that week after week I had to walk through a bunch of his picketing supporters, who would picket in front of the Rayburn House Office Building circa 1985/1986 advocating that US citizens with HIV should be quarantined on a deserted island?

Sorry bud, but I had to wade through this bunch - on Capital Hill - on a regular basis. They can "claim" that I am making it up - but all we have to do - is find people who worked in the House Office buildings in that era to back up this story. There were hundreds (thousands?) who saw this regular, bigotted/intolerant display.

Also to back up that this was a LaRouche position - they pushed a ballot initiative in (California?) in this same era - that reflected these same sentiments.

It is always easy to rationalize, and discount others - even if they were first hand witnesses - if one really just "wants to believe". So go ahead. But I really resent the implication that I am just making up my first hand observations in an effort to marginalize LaRouche. Heck - anyone who has been running for President for more than 20 years (I saw his first infomercial/ 30 minute late night campaign spot in 1984)... who has never won a primary (to my best knowledge) is marginalized - by that fact alone.

14. think of every whacked out conspiracy
namely the jewish led illuminati/masons alliance plotted a nazi takeover of the us government, along with the adoption of calculus rather than algebra as the premier math almost one hundred years ago...this was a response to the founding fathers who favored a socialist government and attempted to the write the constitution as such, the constitution was secretly changed when the jewish nazis (yes you read that right) took hold of the vampire council in 1907.
On top of the that queen elizabeth is somehow the kingpin of the world heroin trade, dick cheney is actually a leprachaun and bush* is an alien cyborg desinged in collaboration with the holocaust "victims" in their secret compound in outer mongolia

lyndon larouche is the only answer to these threats, if you vote for him you vote to take back the world from the evil shadow govt.

He also spent time in jail for fraud
