Canadian DUers - what are you doing for your candidate?
Candidates of liberal [sic] persuasion need all the help they can get.

I'm working in two different ridings. So far I've attended a rally and waved a sign, planted signs and stuffed leaflets in mailboxes and under doors. I also dealt with a policy issue. I'm on the list to scrutineer on election day and help with computer problems.

1. I'm volunteer and planning co-ordinator for my riding.
I'm also doing a couple of projects for the other Calgary ridings.

2. I plan to go out and harass our MP, a faux Conservative...
about their support for bush and bush-like policies, especially their support for the war in Iraq.

3. I won't claim to be doing anything more than voting this time around.
But I have to say, using my vote is a big step for me. I stopped voting around 10-12 years ago because I felt I wasn't being presented with real options. That hasn't completely changed but the state of government north and south of 49 has gotten me out of my seat, so to speak.

I'm leaning toward the NDP (my grandfather would be so proud...), because Liberal or not, Paul Martin is just a little too big business for me. I don't like that he avoids paying millions in taxes every year by keeping his shipping business interests off shore. (Also, balancing the budget by pilfering health care doesn't make you a hero, it makes you a creative accountant).

Anyway, I'll be exercising my vote. I'll start with that, although I sense that the future holds an increase in political action for me.

4. I can't even find out about my candidate
The NDP candidate in my riding, Ross Sutherland, is a mystery. No website, no mention of a candidate's office, the NDP website is only half functional.
Is this a way to run a campaign? Can anyone help?

5. Is this the guy?
This is his website from the Ontario provincial election, in which he was also a candidate:

6. Between parenting and work and, let's face it, DU,
I'm unable to do much this time besides a little canvassing. (Though my work is, come to think of it, pretty political, so perhaps I should count that.)

Layton is my candidate, and he's holding a 20% lead on Mills and doesn't look to be in trouble. If that changes, I'll do more.
