Pennsylvania - The Rolling Thunder, a motorcycle club recognized for its support of Vietnam veterans, rolled up en mass to the McIlvaine home around noon yesterday to show their solidarity with the couple.

Ralph and Dori McIlvaine first met heated protest when they raised a POW/MIA flag on the front lawn of their condominum in the neatly manicured Evergreen senior complex just off White Horse Road.

The condo association, citing a no-flag rule, asked the couple to take down the flag, and when they refused, the association began to fine the McIlvaines $50 a day.

Hamilton Mayor Glen Gilmore has stepped in to support the McIlvaines and now the Rolling Thunder is voicing its anger towards the condo association.

"There are four flags that the US government recognizes: the American flag, state flags, the Olympic flag and the POW/MIA flag," said Rolling Thunder National President Artie Muller, 58, who lives in Neshanic Station.

"And I can't understand how some people think they can deny a flag recognized by the U.S. government. That flag is a symbol of our country," said Muller.

The Rolling Thunder presented the McIlvaines with a hefty check yesterday afternoon. The money, an amount which remains undisclosed, is intended to help the couple pay the imposed fines as well as the over $1,000 they have amassed in legal fees fighting the condo association's mandate.

The Rolling Thunder, a New Jersey-base organization, has donated over $25,000 to war veterans' groups in the past, as well as aiding the Toys For Tots program and various womens' crisis centers.
