Shrub's "Left Behind" Code Language
When Shrub started the "No Child LEFT BEHIND" crap, I didn't make the connection. I'm slow.

Later, when different news items popped off about the Fundie "Left Behind" phenomenon, the connections started creeping into my consciousness.

Today, at the Unknown Soldier ceremony, Shrub sez something like, "There's a tra-disssshhh-ssshhhunn ... in the military, that no soldier is ... LEFT BEHIND ... on the battlefield..."

Am I making too much of it? Seems to me that every time he uses the lingo his fundie followers get a zap or a thrill.

2. I've read that he speaks in code to fundies all the time.
But since I'm not one, I don't catch all of the references.

3. you're making too much of it (IMO)
the usage is valid standing on it's own in each instance

4. interesting - I've never made that connection before
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that there is some correlation.

5. I've heard from military "No one left behind" said many times
* certainly caters to the Left Behind Fundies and you can find references in his speeches - but in this instance no, this was not a code phrase.

6. I know Bush thinks he's going to kick Kerry's left behind....
...but he's in error.

7. I made the connection as soon as I found out about the books
It went like this in my mind: "No child left behind - because we'll "save " them all by forcing all kids in religious schools and this way they'll get raptured away from their heathen parents. Destroy public education, rapture the children.

8. Newsweek Has Described Left Behind As A Red State Phenomenon *Link*
So, you are not the only one who has drawn the connection. Afterall, in the Left Behind series, isn't the Antichrist the secretary-general of the United Nations, and isn't his assistant the Pope. Kerry's Catholicism and advocacy of international cooperation would not be endearing to a Left Behind fanatic.

10. Thanks for that link....reminds me of the Heavens Gate and the
Johannsburg, and Waco and all the rest of the out of touch, out of this world, out of touch people. I hope they raise themselves up soon. Bush and co should go to Iraq and get themselves involved personally in the war and maybe they can rise up early.....

This is BS.

At least with HArry potter people realize it is fantasy. This stuff is sick fantasy that is hurting others....

12. note that it's compared to Lord of the Rings.
The media always pretends equivalency between disparate persons: Jon Stewart MUST be paired with Dennis Miller, Limbaugh with Michael Moore, etc., etc. Exactly the same, just opposite ideologies. Not to be confused with accusations, true or false, of Republicratism.

9. The "Left Behind" series is ostensibly designed...
...to "scare the hell out of" non-believers, by telling them how horrible it will be on earth after the rapture..

It's piss-poor as biblical scholarship and even worse as literature. However, it serves well to point out the authors' allegiance to their true god - Mammon.
