They spoke at the Vets for Peace Saturday afternoon right after Rachel Corrie's parents. I think you had already left. Anyway they were awesome.

Broke my heart though when I asked them who besides Kucinich had met with them. Answer was nada, zilch... Kerry is their ultimate disappointment because he categorically refused to meet with them. Seems he sent a staffer to talk with them but when they persisted in talking to him, he refused. Sharpton is going to meet with them as soon as he can. That news had me seething.

Met him last week-end and had a really interesting talk with him. He was a MSG in Haiti who refused to play the CIA's game and eventually ended up exposing what the administration (the Clinton Administration) was doing there. He wrote a book called "Hideous Dream" that (nya nya nya) he autographed for me :) Means a lot to me for personal reasons.

Anyway get his book if you can.

Half-way into it. It's really disturbing- more disturbing than I had thought- our troops were officially told to treat the FRAPH as a legitimate opposition party in order to weaken Aristide and the populist movement even further.

Makes me week for my country. Well, for both my countries- Haiti and America.

Goff was eventually relieved and threatened with a court-martial until he turned the tables on them with everything he was willing to expose. The Army settled for his retirement.

Men like that aren't born everyday. I've admired him for a while but reading the details are almost chilling and make you even more awe-struck that some people are willing to risk it all for truth and honor.

A review of Stan Goff's "Hideous Dream: A Soldier's Memoir of the U.S. Invasion of Haiti"

Rare is the individual who can withstand the relentless and insidious indoctrination which takes place in modern capitalist society. The military culture submits its recruits to even more rigorous brainwashing, making its escapees rarer still. But those who manage to rebel, clearly analyze, and speak out against the dynamics of the U.S. military-intelligence-financial complex after having been on "the inside" are the rarest of all.
In this respect, Stan Goff's "Hideous Dream" is a true gem. After nearly a quarter-century career in the U.S. military, Goff participated in the 1994 U.S. invasion of Haiti as a Master Sergeant of Special Forces (SF) team number 354. The Master Sergeant or "Top" is the non-commissioned officer (NCO) who, in effect, cracks the whip and leads the team to achieve its goal (although he works under the command of a captain).

Goff's goal -- at least as he chose to interpret his commanders' directives -- was to assist Haitians in liberating themselves from the grips of military dictatorship and paramilitary death-squads which directed the 1991-1994 coup d'état against President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and to be an agent of the Haitian people's will. Although this was a reasonable interpretation of U.S. Commander-in-Chief Bill Clinton's stated objective, Goff's forceful moves to "uphold democracy" -- such as arresting death-squad members and publicly admitting that the U.S. had backed Haitian dictatorships -- brought him within a whisker of a court-martial, the fate which befell another literal-minded soldier, Capt. Lawrence Rockwood, who attempted an unauthorized single-handed prison inspection on Sep. 30, 1994 (see Haïti Progrès, Vol. 12, No. 51 3/8/95).

Both Goff and Rockwood learned the hard way that their "mission was never to restore popular power," as Goff explains in his introduction. "It was to put Aristide's face on a neoliberal fraud... Our mission in Haiti was to stop a revolution, not a coup d'état."

Our Internet was disabled most of today, so I am just getting to this.

MFSO is "Military Families Speak Out". I've been a member for some time now. They have been a rock for many of us who have military members on active duty and who did not support the war in Iraq and who wished to speak out to the various media outlets who actually believe in what we have to say. MFSO distributes requests all the time for interviews with military families, mostly from media outlets outside the US.

I firmly belive in MFSO and the new website to bring them home. My personal mission is to find a way to encourage and to support the military families at home who are speaking out and speaking up about their loved ones still stationed in Iraq and who have been forced into silence by their respective Chains of Command. They should be allowed to tell the world what they are going through, what their loved ones are going through, and not be threatened and forced into silence.

This is a great way to support the troops and their families here at home.
