Identical election margins
I remember seeing articles about the 2002 elections, in which multiple races were decided by identical margins. If I recall correctly, the margin was 18,000 and some-odd votes. Can anyone provide a link to an article that describes this? Or at least tell me what the exact margin was? Thanks.

2. And what does 18181 spell?
"ahaha"!

Is that paranoia, or is someone having a laugh?

6. That's exactly what I was getting at...
I was thinking the number was something like that, and was figuring out what it would spell last night while I was trying to go to sleep.

Nefarious coders have been known put in little "jokes" like that in their code.

Very interesting...

4. There was a reasonable explanation for this
posted here awhile back. All 3 totals occured in the same precinct and all were Republicans. So theoretically, every Republican in that precinct could have voted a straight party line. It's not impossible or even that unlikely.

But Bev's other findings are right on, IMO.

5. Since they were vote "margins", wouldn't your theory have to conclude
that all the other voters in that precint voted the same way as well?

That seems like a preposterous event.

If 100,000 repukes voted straight ticket
and 81,819 dems voted straight ticket then you're covered. Numbers are for demonstration only.

What are the vote totals(of all votes cast) for this precint? The greater the number of voters the LESS likely of such stringent voting patterns.

9. They were vote totals
and it's not my theory...just repeating it. Don't remember the original poster's name.

However, it's odd that that total appeared in other states:

DANNY SCHEEL (Texas): 18,181 votes (Comol County)
CARTER CASTEEL (Texas): 18,181 votes (Comol Country)
JEFF WENTWORTH (Texas): 18,181 votes (Comol County)
CANDICE MILLER (Michigan): 18,181 Votes (Lapeer County)
MICHAEL SMIGIEL (Maryland): 18,181 Votes (St. Anne's)

11. Wrong!
The three instances of the 18181 total were from three different races involving three different voter pools! Had it been three candidates with the same pool of voters it would almost make sense.

Here are the results from Comel County Texas

Note that two of the races were for Representatives of different districts, Jeff Wentworth won the State Senator, District 25 race,
Carter Casteel won the State Representative, District 73 race and Danny Scheel won the County Judge race. All with 18,181 votes.

IIRC, there were two more instances of wins by Republican Candidates in Michigan with 18,181 votes.

Nice try though! :)
