I find it hard to imagine that Tenet wasn't on the team, but that's just my opinion.
The oh-so-tortured metaphor, as best I can.
- Slam dunk would be two points, an easy bucket. If you think the Iraq war has been a success for the administration and Tenet deserves most of the credit/blame, that's your first option.
- Slam dunk with a foul shot. Same as above, but Tenet was fouled going to the basket and gets to take a shot from the free throw line. If you believe that the invasion has given BushCo the juice for another adventure, and that Tenet made that happen, that could be an option for you.
- Brick, no rebound. It wasn't a slam dunk. The opposing team got the ball.
- Brick with a rebound. It wasn't a slam dunk, but Tenet was there to grab the rebound. His team still kept the ball.
- Assist. Tenet directly fed the ball to the person who scored, i.e., Tenet's input was instrumental in bringing about the invasion of Iraq.
- Set a screen. Tenet took a position that blocked a defender and allowed the shooter to score. It's not as much of a sacrifice as seppuku, because it keeps him in the game. It's part of the game plan. If you beleive that the WMD story was only useful to BushCo for "bureaucratic reasons," this might be an option you agree with.
- Bench warmer. Tenet was on the team, but not in play for the Iraq war.
- Coaching staff. Tenet took part in preparing the team for the Iraq war, but was not a player.
- Fan. Tenet cheered the team on from the sidelines.
- Other. The same as in plain English.
