I got an email from a freeper
It says...(btw, I wonder how he/she got my email address? )

I don't have a problem with people speaking out against the war, it is what they say is what I have a problem with. For example, Jeneane Garofalo said these things which I found very unamerican.

"Who would have thought that I'd be angry on behalf of my country? I'm used to being angry at my country."
We have freedoms and rights that people have fought for and she doesn't appreciate it. Maybe she should go live in Saddam's bunker and prefer to be raped.

"The world would be better off with multiple superpowers. When Communist USSR was a superpower, the world was better off."
The world was horrible in the cold war, how can someone say something like this? Thank god she is in no position to lead this country or we would be Communist Western Russian States if it wasn't for Reagan.

"Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."
I don't have to explain this, someone who chokes up in pride when someone burns the flag is CLEARLY anti-american.

There are so many examples of anti-americanism that it boggles my mind why you dumbocrats would support these actors. They are not only speaking out against this war, but they are hoping for the destruction of this nation.

Any ideas on how to reply to this? I have some, I just want to hear yours.

1. The best response... is NO response
these people are not interested in truth.. They already have "their truth"..you will only make yourself :silly: trying to give them facts.. They don't want them

4. Agreed
They're off the deep end. Better to spend time on those who aren't reading the paper and can be convinced with facts. The nutjobs are only interested in "their guy" getting in, facts be damned.

13. Heck, my RW father would agree with her there...
For one thing, international politics was simpler -- US vs. THEM -- and for another, despite Internatinal Communism's many failings, one thing it did well was prop up the standard of living for the average, ordinary folks of its adversaries. (i.e., as long as corporations and the super-rich were worried about a REAL "socialist revolution", lesser measures like the New Deal, Social Security, regulations, etc., were worth the price to retain a fundamentally capitalist system. Now that Communism has unequivocally failed, those same forces are now hell-bent on taking back everything they gave up (or believe they did) over the last century and a half.

3. I remember seeing Janeane speak at the 92st Y in NYC and
seeing part of her speech excerpted on MSNBC during the Scarborough Show. She was very passionate and was commenting on what she thought Democrats needed to do to win in 2004. Without showing the full content of the speech, she did look like a nut. I would like to read her full thoughts, not just lines taken out of a paragraph.

6. Was it only to you? Or lots of people?
If only you - blow it off. If lots of people got the email, definitely respond, and do so with facts, not names. You never know who you may end up convincing...be sure to point out that starting wars, destroying civil liberties, and tearing up the Constitution is NOT American.

7. I recall the art teachers trying to make 'new' art interesting.
With people who only believe what they want to believe it is a hard thing to do. The best teacher I had on it said' "you do not have to like this type art but since it is done all over the world you should know something about it to be well educated" and then we had to look and learn about modern art. It is always good to have an open mind. We must make these people see that our country was the real nut case in the world to try this style gov. one they think is the only style of gov. Try that in their face.'so you are telling us Geo. Washington was a commy un-am. SOB" Watch them back step on that.

10. How about some proof ....
If these quotes were made, then where did they come from? TV? Magazines?

Ask for documented proof. If he/she can't do it, then they're lying.

12. I sometimes tell people like this
American? There is no "America" right now. Bush stole the 2000 election so the entire U.S. government is illegitimate.

That usually sends them in a freefall off the deep end. They start babbling and ranting incoherently and I just start smiling!

14. Out Of Context...as usual
Not long ago I heard Ms. Garofolo address the comment or the parts that have been cited over and over via Slimborough, Newsmax, O'Reilly and others.

First, she said that the comment about the Cold War was way off base...as nuclear destruction could happen at any moment and that a generation now coming to power grew up under that threat. Some wanted to dismantle the bombs, others wanted to make more.

The times were "safer" then as both the U.S. and U.S.S.R. were in a "MAD" stalemate, compared to today where our cowboy regime feels unchallenged in launching any war any place it likes. "Real Muricans" and Freepers think this is a sign of strength. I, like millions outside the U.S. see it as a sign of weakness.

Yep, there's no arguing with a freeper as they already made up their hate-filled minds a long time ago. My tact with these goons is, when I do respond (one needs a little red meat now and then)is to stay so on target that they can't slip and slime (even though they will).

I always know I've gotten to a Freeper when the name Clinton starts showing in the thread...LOL

15. Yeah, I wouldn't bother
Someone around here has been using my father-in-law's favorite saying lately, and it applies.

Don't bother trying to teach a pig to sing. He'll never learn, and it annoys the pig.
