hey europe, how do ya like that global warming huh?
are the folks in paris putting two and two together and associating the record breaking heat with bushco and the 'theory' of global warming? do londoners gripe while dripping sweat about our giant s.u.v.'s and air conditioned homes? how would you like those temperatures to remain permanent, or go up even higher? well if you don't play ball with america, and surrender to assimilation, we will crank up the thermostat a few more notches. how ya like them there apples europe?

1. sales are up
Carlsberg reported that the sales in Britain is up 40% this summer. The heatwave is taking the honor for the extraordinary thirst for beer this season. Way to go britons

5. One slight problem there
Carlsberg tastes like gnat's piss.

On the good side sales of a good many decent beers are up, sales of ice cream are up, Electric fans have sold out just about everywhere and Britain's seaside resorts have never had it so good!

On a bad note, I feel like a right sweaty betty!

6. You might want to
check the ones in GD, and also in LBN.

3000 people are dead from the heat in France alone.

8. I read the report and those numbers seem flawed
they say that of an average of 2300 deaths per week in normal
circumstances they are now hitting a rate of 3200 per week
so I think one can only start to consider a weather link for the
extra 900...

10. The 2300 were the normal rate of ONE undertaker, not of
whole country!

9. It seems really to be true,
here´s a link to Le Monde
http://www.lemonde.fr/article/0,5987,3224--330534-,00.html

Can you imagine, 3000 people died from the heat.
Not a matter for jokes, is it?

(although, I must admit to be very happy to live in Bavaria, where beer is much better than Carlsberg)

4. How's the weather on the Atlantic coast?
I thought I heard that it was cool and overcast much of the time, playing havoc with summer tourism.

I've heard that European tourism to the US is down in general. I'd like to see FL stats on that.

11. London was hell last weekend.
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 07:13 AM by Jen72
Most homes in London do not have air conditioning!!!

I can only imagine what Heathrow the hottest place in the country was like. Glass buildings, heavy traffic and aeroplanes.
Oh and there are forest fires in Portugal, which is normal for an Australian Summer not in Europe.

12. Not exactly true: there were always forest fires in Portugal,
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 07:22 AM by OldEurope
you can see this at the plants that naturally grow there: cork oats for example, the are used to fire, like the nature in Australia is.
But surely the fires get worse from year to year, and the extremely hot and dry weather of this year caused terriffic damage all over Europe.

13. The hottest place in Britain
was Gravesend in kent. (sorry to be pedantic) Heathrow is just the place where the record was first broken.

I was in London on Saturday at a (air conditioned) beer festival. The only problem was the train ride home. I was an hour late and I think I had melted by the time I reached Romford. :eyes: Commuters from the home counties are not having a good time of it at the moment.
