F*cking CNN!
I just saw two promos. One, on the 'missile sting,' where they said something like, "Was he part of a larger network getting ready to attack America?" Let's see... when you pose questions like that, you could say something like... "Was he a space-alien, getting ready to enslave the planet?"

Second promo was on forest fires, which is fine... except the piece was entitled SUMMER OF FIRE! Once again, Michael Moore's thesis from Bowling for Columbine--that we are imprisoned by a culture of media-driven fear--is proven correct.

I am so f*cking sick of cable news, I could puke!

1. "Sharks: Agents of Al Qaeda?"

"This new spate of shark attacks has many Americans wondering if Al Qaeda has found a new way of terrorizing Americans."

2. Reminds me of that post-9/11 Onion headline
Sharks: Terrorists of the Sea!

(Actually, it was part of that evening's TV watching on the Discovery Channel.)

3. So stop watching it
24-hour cable news is 90% entertainment and 10% information (okay, so I guessed at those statistics). It's infotainment. And it's not healthy to watch. Boycott boycott boycott.

6. And they wonder why no one watches
There ratings aren't down because of news burnout. They are down because they are no longer legitimate and people get their news from the internet.

8. Wow. Wouldn't it be shocking to learn that the media was just another...
...corporation looking for handouts from the US government while making sure the powers that keep them rich stay in office?

7. "Summer of Fire"
EVERY summer is the summer of fire. Except this year fed wildfire budgets began to run out in early August. Wonder what chimp and his chimpettes signed that little piece of brilliance?

But yeah, we were dying laughing out here when fire season began, and the news reported someone from OHS "leaking" that Al Q had plots to start forest fires in the U.S.

Bogeyman BOO!! :eyes:

9. "Trees...breeding grounds for diseased attack rodents?"
"It is now our mission to rid the country of terrorist attack rodents who live in trees. And we must prosecute trees for aiding and abetting. Trees who cannot appear in court will be cut down immediately..." I am waiting to hear this.

11. Ya can't get news at CNN - FOX - MSNBC
All` ya get is right wing spin and gossip that sells like hotcakes to mindless idiots.

If not for these whores, junior would be around 22% in the polls.

14. Reminds me of the day
they took down Saddam's statue and they were all declaring the war in Iraq over.

Let's see where we are at in a month from now before we start celebrating about Liberia.

13. It's not news...it's Infotainment
The "journalistic" aspect of any major news media...especially television, vanished ages ago. Moore is correct beyond even his own words.

Right now there's a major rating's battle (if you call 1 to 2% of all viewers a battle) between NewsCorp, AOL/TW and GE (let's call these channels by their REAL names) where millions are made on the peddling of sensationalism. I heard C-SPAN report today that Faux reported a 26% rise in profits for the end of their fiscal year. Ya think the suits at the other networks aren't guaging their programming to copy "success"? They always do.

The deal is nothing draws audiences like a good scandal or national "crisis"...(thus I'm all but certain that Election Day, 2004, we'll be under either an Orange or even Red alert, just to remind the simple folks whose in charge) and that things like Laci Peterson and shilling the Iraq invasion was good for business. These buzzards are salivating at the Kobe mess and the California circus...and they'll manipulate it to find a way to draw a larger audience. Now that they've given Ah-nuld the coronation, I'm wondering if they'll be eager to hoist him on his petard over the next 8 weeks. Should there be a "credible" bimbo watch the media circus go from Arnold worship to feeding mode.

The deal is that any story that has a sexual, racial or celebrity angle will get top shelf treatment (Kobe is a goldmine)...and why there was such a fixation with O.J. and then Clinton. Inversely, there's nothing sexy about Dubya...doing stories about lying to start a war or destroying the economy or abolishing civil rights requires actual work and isn't a draw. Plus, the media knows how retributive this illegal regime is and that if you piss Rove & Co. off, you'll have hell to pay.

15. There was an interview on C-Span with a journalist.
a Democrat, who wrote a piece for the Atlantic Monthly about RMurdoch. He seemed to portray Murdoch more as a businessman than an ideologue, pandering only to what would sell. It seemed a rather superficial assessment, considering the built in bias of business-corporate allegiance and lack of accompanying social ethics.

The truth is the truth has been branded "liberal" and "fair and balanced" is little more than a pr outlet for the billion dollar thinktanks that churn out biased soundbites to obscure or twist truth. So here you have the convergence of Right-wing corporate interests with Right-wing manipulation of reality as conventional truth---while the truth itself becomes simply dismissed as too liberal.
