Newbie Intro
Hey fellow lefties, I'm a newbie, and just wanted to say Hi.

I guess I can start off by telling you who I'm backing to beat Bush. Here's my ranking list:

1) General Wesley Clark*
Republicans always say Democrats are weak on defense and military......this guy's resume should shut them up.

2) Al Gore*
Beat Bush once, and would do it again- but this time claim his prize.

3) Howard Dean
Is there a doctor in the (White)House??? There will be. This guy has proven himself to be for real, and has been the only one with testicles regarding the War in Iraq. You gotta love a Democrat who is not afraid to be a Democrat.

4) Dick Gephardt
He used to be my number one, but he's slipping. I like where he stands on the issues, and he's got my trust if he is nominated- but that's an if. A really big if.

5) Bob Graham
He seemed a little wishy-washy at first, but he's stepped up to the plate recently. I like him cause he's funny looking too.

Kucinich, Sharpton, Moseley-Braun are all fine in my book, but don't have a shot at the nomination.

I don't like Edwards or Kerry. Edwards is scared to be a Democrat. Kerry's vicious attacks on Howard Dean dissappointed me. Of course, I'd vote for em over Bush but I'd prefer those listed above.

Those are my picks. What are yours?

18. Lieberman?
Is he still in the race?

Welcome smoothy.

My picks?

Dean
(Gore)
Kerry
Kucinich
Gephardt
Graham
Mosely Braun
Edwards
Sharpton

Clark is intelligent and goodlooking, but I don't buy the main reason I hear why he should be the dem candidate -- that we need someone "in uniform." I don't want us to capitulate to the Bush paridigm of fear, I want a candidate that can articulate a vision of optimism and hope. Maybe Clark is that guy, but unless, and until I have a chance to see him campaign -- hear where he stands and see how well he persuades, I'm not going to be interested based solely on his resume.

My list:

Clark (if he runs)
Dean
Kerry
Graham

Gephardt and Leiberman are too Repuke-lite for me.

The rest have absolutely NO chance, but I welcome their voices in the mix at this stage!!!

12. Welcome Smoothy King... and a note
if you can't find this thread later, look in the lounge. Intros are often put there - BUT since you are discussing the candidates and your whys on your ranking - it seems to fit GD - so it might stay in this forum.

Just wanted to alleviate any confusion if the thread does move.

BTW at this point I am "undecided" on principle. Still too far in advance - and lots of early twists have not yet happened that will probably push me in one direction or another.

Welcome aboard!

16. You found a fun place
My picks are;
1. John Kerry- has it all, electabal and liberal
2. John Edwards- not even a ripple yet, but one to watch, it's early
3. Dick Gephardt- I just plain like the guy, old fashioned Democrat, though I do have concerns over electability

20. From one newbie to another...
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 10:05 PM by RatTerrier
WELCOME ABOARD!

As far as my preferences:

1. Clark: The one I really see tossing GWB out of the White House. Not just because of the stars and medals, but he is articulate, intelligent, confident, calm, personable and even humorous. Great credentials. Progressive beliefs and vast international experience. No baggage or skeletons (that we really know of and can be exploited by Rove, et al.). I would love to see him debate Bush. I dream about it.

2. Dean: Good platform, and at least has some guts. But I don't see him grabbing the undecideds from Bush. Rove is salivating over running against this guy.

3. Kerry: Would kill Bush on the Vietnam thing. But he's too entrenched in Washington. May not be taken seriously by the swing voters.

4. Graham: Not as well known as Kerry, Lieberman or Gephardt, so that, in a way, is an advantage. But also working against him. Kinda bland.

5. Gephardt: Strong with labor. But too stale. Been there, done that.

6. Sharpton: No way does he get the nomination. But I like his style, and he can add something interesting to this campaign.

7. Edwards: Little experience. Should build up some experience and excitement. Not ready yet. But he may make noise down the road. Stay tuned...

8. Kucinich: The reason I put him here is that it's at least above Lieberman. Otherwise, he's this year's Jerry Brown, without the solid leadership cred.

9. Lieberman: Bushite with a Donkey mascot. Didn't like him in '00, don't like him now. Sided with GOP on Clinton impeachment and Bush's Folly (Iraq War). I'd still vote for him over Bush

and...

10. Mosley-Braun: Last? Why? She has really no reason for running. Sorry to offend CMB supporters, but she is one of the sleaziest politicians in America. Almost as bad as Bush. Served a corrupt and controversial term in the senate where the only issues she pursued was stuffing her pockets and paying hush money to women her boyfriend was messing around with. Emabarassing. Does she even have any supporters?
