Well, as you know Arnie admitted that he voted for Prop 187, and he has been soundly criticized for it in the local media. (This racist initiative was overturned by the California Supreme Court as unconstitutional). This had the potential of losing him a large portion of the Hispanic vote. So guess whom he has hired to help him with his campaign? He has asked my snake-in-the-grass Republican Assemblyman Abel Maldonado to advise him. No I didn’t vote for him.

<snip>
Maldonado spent Wednesday with Schwarzenegger at his campaign headquarters in Santa Monica, helping him craft policies and advising him on the important issues in California.<snip>

Maldonado does know how to get the Hispanic vote in my district, so I guess he’s going to coach Arnie on which lies work with the Hispanic population.

Snarl.

2. This should be expected
Whenever a politician gets accused of racism, sexism, anti-gay, or something else, the first line of defense is to hire a woman, a gay person, a black person, etc.

Cruz and the Democrats in California have been pretty quiet do far, I hope they have a plan.

Arnold is taking the Bush approach, which is to present himself as an empty suit and surround himself with a bunch of people who can each appeal to a certain group of voters. For the most part, it has worked for Bush and there is no reason to think it won't work for Arnold.

3. hey, he can speak spanish!
like, "hasta la vista." what more could they want?

if that's not enough, maybe Arnie could make a huge donation to the Cesar Chavez foundation, or something. (i just made that up, i have no idea whether such a foundation exists or what it does.)

4. This is Cesar Chavez country.
The people here are the children of those farm workers. It seems they have forgotten about that. Maldonado is one of them. That's why I called him a snake-in-the-grass. I guess he can add Arnold toadie to his resume.

5. I was wondering how...
he was going to finesse that issue.

Even with Maldanado on board, I think he's still going to have a hard time with Cruz in the picture.
