MSNBC: Congress had the opportunity to improve power grid, but didn't...
It sounded like they were saying this happened last year or this year...Any truth to this?

I'd love see some Congressional Repugs have their feet held to the fire over this....

1. "...Third World grid..."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61117-2003Aug15.html

"We're a superpower with a Third World grid," New Mexico Gov. Bill
Richardson, a former energy secretary, said yesterday."

For years the GOP has done everything it can to cut back government involvement in everything. They say "leave it to the private sector. We've got to get the government out of the private sector's business and let them do what they do best." So now our national infrastructure is in shambles and we're becoming more and more like a third-world nation, and our S*** for Brains President is cutting taxes to insure there's even less money for government and for infrastructure upgrades.

2. They Put Profits First !

This is a classic case of a problem where the government must get involved in. Any time
you let private companies who work for profit, they will do everything they can to increase
profits.

The power companies have used lobbyists to bribe congressman and senators to vote
against forcing them to build more power plants. Because building more power plants
would cut into their profits. When 21 power plants go down in 3 minutes, you have a serious
problem.

They don't have enough power plants to handle the load if one goes down, what does that
tell you. It tells me they were too cheap to build more power plants.

And what is Canada doing in our power grid ?

Nobody is asking why part of Canada is in the American power grid. Does anyone know why
they are part of our power grid ?

Hmmmm. And just which party has been in control of both Houses of Congress since about 1996?

4. They got their privatization,
now DEAL with it. Make the bastards pay to upgrade the system-they aren't controlled by the government, they aren't a non-profit organization. You make your bed, you lie in it, dammit. I don't want my tax dollars going to bail out these bastards.
