Did the blackout of 2003 boost Gray Davis?

I'm wondering if the blackout of 2003 remind the Californians whose fault it really was (Not Davis, mind you), and re-thinking the recall issue?

Will it be a huge reversal of fortune? Did Davis pray for this to happen?

I heard him on CNN - he did a great job explaining the situation vs the '01 "energy crisis"?

I was just thinking that late afternoon and wanted to post about it, but had no time.

The Cal power issue was not his fault, although the connection to the major Blackout in the east isnt likely.

The Cal issue was due to economical issues with the power companies. The blackout in the east was caused by natural occurances.

The Governor, must take responsibility for the failures on his watch, just like he takes credit for the successes.

The fact is that when Gray took office there was a $12B surplus. Now there is a $38B deficit, and that is not including the pension, and debt interest deferments in the present budget. Those amount to a further $8B.

These numbers are what is killing him.

as for Energy, The numbers again hurt government, although not all of it, him.

California had not built a new power plant in 25 years. in that time the states power usage has risen by 2.5 times. This is a recipe for failure. Add to that the fact that nationwide, all of the switching, and distribution systems are 25-40 years old.

Also, I would point out that we shoot ourselves in the foot in this regard when we hamstring in court any power company that tries to build new, or update distribution systems.

Ok, feel free to flame me, but these are the facts, and we need to address them. party politics aside.

Did he bring up enron and the deregulation?

Now I hope people will understand how California was manipulated and LOOTED by the Republican Party.

I really think that the big blackout will and has already helped Gray Davis. I found it ironic that the Homeland Security was not asked for help (duh?). I suppose other states see how ridiculous and ineffective it is.

In any event, it also shows that these power outages much be dealt with ASAP! This is why Gray Davis did what he did! Maybe others will now see the "light" so to speak.

Where I used to live in Northern Calif. the power would often be out for up to a week at a time - no water either because of an electric pump needed for the well to operate. These were not fun times and it was before the thing with Gray Davis even happened. Of course, the public never hears about people living in rural California with no power or water for a week!

I hope that these people back east now can see what the reality is. I had to laugh when Pataki said last night that this blackout situation required "Federal action". hahahaaaaaa!!!!!

I think God is looking out for Gray Davis and I hope the entire USA learned a very good lesson!

I had the same thoughts. Davis made the hard choices, stressed conservation...and had his political balls handed to him via the bush-approved price gouging of Ken Lay. He pretty much laid it out there, but was anybody listening?

I'm afraid this story will have no traction in the US media. Hell, 3,000+ people have died in France in the last 3 weeks due to the heat wave. Nobody here seems to know or care about it (except the disgusting WP editorial board!).

The right wing will bury the Davis/Enron/bush/NE blackout ASAP. CNN just had a report on the fact that "Congress considered an upgrade to the grid last year...maybe now they'll get serious." Wha? NO MENTION of the fact that the initiative was killed by the REPIGS!

The Chimpadministration will not emerge from this crisis as problem solvers.

But he has to seize the initiative in a way that he has seldom done. It's time for an outstanding performance, a great demonstration of valor between now and 10/7. Stand up, and proudly talk about the things that the right-wingers call "job killers." Talk about how Bush is the first president since Hoover to have a net job loss. These are important things to note. Let Bush come to CA, dare him to--pummel him, attack him, call him Satan, Jim Jones and John Wayne Gacey. They have their "scapegoat"--now we need ours.

I think he will use the East Coast Blackout -- and the Clintons will back him up on this.

Oh...BTW how's the lawsuit doing to get Cheney's energy papers?

Davis should beat these BASTARDS like a DRUM. With Arnie as DAS FUHRER, he will de regulate the markets according to Bushco's will!!! If Cali elected Arnie then they will rightfully get screwed BIG TIME!

At least I'm praying it will!!!
