Over 50% of the Arnold votes will be from usual non-voters who think Arnold is cool. You think Simon will split that vote? :)

25. the rethugs will take out Simon

and every other 'serious' contender. (there was an LBN thread)

BushCo has decided to place ArNulled on the CA throne. they will stop at nothing. (as we know too well)

BushCo has announced their intention to SWEEP the deification of the chimp. they intend to make democrats--and any and all dissent--utterly irrelevant, treasonous, and un-*christian*

finally and firmly entrenched, 8 years of Jeb will follow as the middle class is eliminated and the only option available will be to serve in the corporate (privitized) armies that will continue to expand BushCo hegemony over the world's resources.

the majority who voted against * must, somehow, convince the 'base' that blindly supports a cabal that utterly and absolutely HATES them to a degree where a second election theft is impossible and IMPEACH, INDICT, CONVICT and SENTENCE is the unified voice of 'the people'

there is not much time...

5. With Simon and Ueberroth on the ballot...?
I'm not so sure. I think Simon may outdraw him. If they split the votes, I think Bustamente would have to have a good chance - even if the majority of people vote "YES" on recall...which I doubt they will.

6. I'm not convinced that is the case
again it will come down to turnout. If Davis gets 40% of the vote you can bet the vast majority of those people will not be voting for Arnold--but probably Cruz. Cruz will get a strong Latino vote and the vote of Democratic loyalists who still are a formidalbe force in the state. I think Cruz can do it.

50. I hear you, NSMA
First, let me say thank you for all you do AND assure you that you are not alone in your efforts. Let me give you some good news.

Your efforts are being duplicated throughout the state. Here in the Central San Joaquin Valley we've been walking precincts for the last two weeks, speaking against the recall, registering people to vote and signing up people for permanent absentee voter status. What we're finding is that people are PISSED! The phone at our local Dem. office is ringing off the hook with people wanting to know what they can DO. In many cases, these are first-timers who've not been involved locally in the past. Right now the big thing is walking the precincts and that's what we're having them do. All of our local Dem. clubs are involved, as is the Central Committee, the caucuses AND the local Kucinich and Dean group. (Where the hell the others are I have no idea.)

We've hooked up with a lot of the local unions who are doing the same thing.

The REALLY good news is that we have a HUGE Latino outreach in motion right now. We've got two large Latino events coming up here and the organizers have given us the OK to set up tables at both events. It seems that Bustamonte being on the ballot has made a lot of difference within the Latino community. With continued outreach and education, I think this traditionally low-voter-turnout demographic may turn around.

It's real easy to sit back somewhere out of state with Demographic stats and mainstream newspapers and declare "Ahnold will win." The hard part is what WE'RE doing and then seeing it come to fruition. Never forget there are tens of thousands of us working right along with you all over the state. Focus on that. All else is pablum.

Hugs, kisses and MUCH THANKS from another trench worker. :hi:

all Democratic Californians start initiatives to recall their Republican legislators and other elected officials. I for one am going to try to get my fellow Democrats in my Assembly district to recall Assemblyman Abel Maldonado, who is helping Arnold with getting the Hispanic vote. I am not surprised he has time to help in Arnold's campaign since he doesn't do anything much in his elected capacity.

http://www.sloclerkrecorder.org/elections/recall.pdf

It's PDF so takes a little time to load. Let the recalls begin.

IMO, the differecnes among Davis, Bustamante, and Ahnold cancel one another out so in terms of utility there's no difference. In terms of 2004 presidential, an Ahnold victory will make California more Democratic because the Democrats will feel cheated whereas a Bustamante victory will make California more Republican because the GOP will feel robbed of an opportunity.

Smart in one thing does not mean your smart in all things.Look Bush ran a state and how much did he know. Reagon ran calif into the ground I understand but so be it. A corp is usually run top down and a gov from bottom up. We have a prez who thinks he is a CEO of a big corp and it is not the same. People tend to think it is so will think this man can do it.

I don't think there should be a recall, and I want to do whatever I can to stop it.

But if Arnold wins this election, Democrats better do some SERIOUS thinking about who they want to nominate next year. If even *Californians* don't care and elect someone based on glitz, Democrats had better be ready to play that game and stop hiding their heads in the sand pretending that voters want to spend endless hours on the top 1% of the 50% who get tax credits if they make 23% of.....

Listen to what the people are telling you!

Just something to think about.

We want to beat the Republicans, right? Okay, fine. Let's get up off our collective ass and fight! Because right now, the Republicans are trying to take over the state of California!

What can we do? If you're in California, get out to the polls and vote NO on the recall. And those in CA (or if you have contacts in CA), inform and enlighten your friends, family and colleagues and get them to vote NO on the recall. Make phone calls. Send letters and e-mails. Organize. Donate. Get involved. Get angry.

Feel as passionately opposed to this recall as you would about supporting the Democratic candidate in 2004.

52. Arnold will not win
The local press is much more antagonistic towards him than the national press. Stories are starting to come out about the instability his election will cause, his womanizing, and lack of policies on the budget and environment. I'm not sure if Davis can defeat the recall but I haven't given up hope yet. I think if Davis is recalled, then Bustamante will win.

The California Dems are energized over this, and I'm seeing the conservatives starting to eat their own. It's playing out beautifully with the conservatives attacking Arnold and the Dems looking like the good government folks.

53. opinion from out of state
opinions are fine, but what purpose does this serve, especially from one who doesnt even live here? Not that I suggest Carlos hasnt the right to post this....

Anything can happen with this silly recall effort and I do mean anything! Davis, though almost universally disliked, has proven himself a survivor time and time again. I think that, as people have time to consider this issue, this recall will appear more and more like a subversion of the process, more like what happened in Florida in '00........

Should the recall pass then there are many candidates competing for the office and it will depend upon the voter turnout....but Arnold is far from a shoo in, hell the fur has yet begun to fly and how many on the right support his stated policies or his life style? Will the left vote for him ? Doubtful , so he gets his support from the middle and from those who vote on name recognition alone.....not exactly a great base, imo especially with so many candidates drawing the moderate voter.

My hope is that the recall is defeated, but if it isnt that folks will vote for Bustamonte out of a sense of fairness in retaining a democratic governorship as the voters did nine short months earlier.

Arnold is in it just for the giggles. It will become obvious in September that he doesn't want to piss people off so they'll stop going to his movies. He's not walking away from all that money, don't be ridiculous.

Asked any controversial questions, Arnold will mumble something to the effect, "We'll cross that bridge when we get there."

Come October, everybody will have enjoyed the brief respite but the funsies will be over. The recall will fail.

discouraged in the media fog, but we don't start threads: "The sky is falling". It's irresponsible. Some people come here to get energized for their activism not bombarded by your Rove induced pessimism.
What I think of the recall is that between the property owners (Buffet) and the Hispanics (Wilson, prop 187) he is fried in his own right. His action movie fans do not strike me as voting folk. (or even literate, over 18 folk)

59. Newest polls show Bustamante 25%, Arnold 23%
Californians got a chance to be reminded that Davis wasn't the sole cause of any blackouts. Davis didn't have a thing to do with the NE power grid. Can Bush say the same? Can he say he's not being paid off by the big players in these blackouts? Look at the campaign contributions. Money that ratepayers expected to be re-invested in their systems got siphoned off by fatcats and criminals who made sure that the influence peddler at the top got his cut.

And what did Californians see to remind them of the serious manner in which the nation's so called chief executive responded to yet another national crisis? They got to see Bush standing in a sandbox pretending to shovel his own grave while he reminded everyone he was awake...The Arnold polls started to slide like a California hillside at that point. A wake up call alright. Californians are going to wake up and reject this pantomime president. Notice how Arnold is begging Bush to keep his distance? Yeah, Bush, bring it on. Help Arnold lose big time, you asshole.

Californians will show the country that that money isn't more important than character. Americans need to learn this lesson. Let the Golden State lead the way.

The aging muscleman's campaign will atrophy like his testicles as soon as all Californians realize that he's nothing more than a steroid pumped gasbag. He can't run a state just by repeating one liners from Grade B action movies.

Arnold is attracting attention - being a superstar and all. But i don't think he's a shoo-in for Governer. The race is wide open and i believe still the dems to lose.
