Anyone catch Christianne Amanpour on the Goebbels News Network?
Wolf Blitzer allowed her to speak up and I’m afraid she won’t be
allowed on the air after this if she isn’t out and out fired. To catch you up to speed, Randi Rhodes said yesterday that she had talked to Christianne who complained that CNN wasn’t airing her stories even though she was putting her life on the line to report live from Baghdad.

Well today Paul Wolfowitz said reporters are sitting on their asses in Baghdad picking up rumors instead of getting out and digging up the truth. They are reporting only those rumors that make Bush look bad. He said they were unfair and unbalanced implying they were biased and unpatriotic. (Paraphrasing)

Christianne who looked like she could spit nails said something to the effect that nothing could be further from the truth. That she could speak for every one of her fellow reporters that they are risking their lives everyday trying to get out the news of what is happening. She said she didn’t know what stress Mr. Wolfowitz was under to make such erroneous statements. I thought she was way too polite.

I will be writing a long letter to CNN about their abdication of their responsibility to report the truth about the Bush administration and the war in Iraq, about their lack of concern for the safety of reporters like Christianne, who are trying to practice good journalism at the risk of their lives and about their constant refusal to report the whole truth about the BFEE and the PNAC and what they have done to our country. I hope other DU’ers do as well.

7. Turner gave up his CNN interests a looooong time ago
with the AOL/Time Warner merger. He tried to buy his way back in a year or so ago, but the deal was put off.

9. If only Ted still owned CNN.
CNN is a part of Time/Warner/AOL now.

Ted is actually a liberal and has been involved in environmental and political causes for many years. Don't know why you feel the need to bash Ted when there are so many more appropriate targets.

4. I can't believe Christianne still works for that network.
She's a reputable journalist. Which makes her virtually alone there.

10. I remember the day Baghdad fell...
and CNN was showing live footage of the American soldier on the tank who was covering up Saddam's statue with the flag. She yelled, and I mean yelled, "WHAT is he DOING"?!? She was completely fricking appalled.

12. Maybe part of the problem is she's made a deal w/another network.
I heard on TV that Amanpour would be having news sections on some network other than CNN. This would be in addition to CNN. She wasn't leaving CNN.

Maybe Wolfe is jealous. And for all the remarks about CNN being liberal, I suspect Wolfie is a Republican.

If you aren't, Josef Goebbels was Hitler's Minister of Propaganda during the Third Reich. He controlled all the media and entertainment in Germany to insure that nothing that was unfavorable to the Fuhrer was said.

14. Christianne is the best reporter on any of the "major" media.
And, the only one that could be another Walter Cronkite or Ed Murrow.

The difference between her and the "Spunky" blondes (of both sexes and whatever the hair color of the week) is akin to the difference between Filet Mignon and Lime Jell-0.

I did a google search and came up with 169 (!) citations for it on other sites. It spread like Colin Ferrell's crabs.

27. More interesting stuff about "war slut"
is that Murdoch himself apologized for Peyser's NYPost piece, which also wondered what Ms. Amanpour's "Jewish in-laws" would think of her reporting. Apparently, she is married to former Clark (and current Kerry) foreign policy expert Jamie Rubin.

23. The Battle
This battle on CNN is being dictated. First off, Wolf Blitzer is a former Washington correspondent for Jerusalem Times. He's an outright Zionist and Bush A**licker. That's what we see in Europe on CNN International.

Amanpour is the only... yes the ONLY CNN reporter who dares to rock the boat. Yea, okay - she is Iranian. And she is a woman.

Will Blitzer win? Of course. Ted lost control a long time ago. Amanpour is hard to get rid of. For the very reasons above.

24. Yes, we get CNN Int'l. on weekends here.
There is a vast difference between how both CNN's present the news. Amanpour will probably still be on in Europe, but I think we won't be seeing that much of her here anymore.

28. christianne is da woman!
She has put her ass on the line repeatedly, all over the world, for years and years, to let us know what's really going on.

And she doesn't take ANY shit from ANYONE.

Though I love 60 Minutes, I remember an interview many years ago in which Mike Wallace was interviewing Christianne, and he was trying to get her to admit she loves having her face on camera, framed by her fur parka. Really silly. A setup for her to serve up his balls on a plate, if ever I heard one.

She deftly pulled the rug out from under Mike with her words (and the dismissive look on her face!), and then moved on to more important matters.

I love her!

AND, she was close friends with JFK Jr. ... wouldn't let him get away without doing chores when they shared a house with other students in college ... she taught him, and forced him, to clean the toilet!

And she's married to a Clinton Admin dude -- Jamie Rubin, former state dept. spokeman.

34. Just wait until October
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 02:26 PM by hansolsen
Blitzer pretends to be an objective journalist but his ideology shines through his work.

What I have noticed in the past is that Wolfie tries to be on his best behavior most of the time in the long lead-up to elections, but watch out the last few weeks when eveything hangs in the balance -- October, 2004 is when Wolf is likely to stick a shiv in John Kerry every chance he gets.

It's worth watching CNN just to keep score on Blitzer. I do.

P.S. Christianne Amanpour is the best journalist now working in the world.

29. 24 journalists have died in Iraq through May '04
http://www.worldrevolution.org/article/1311

I can't get an updated number on the number of journalists who have died through the present date, but I have read somewhere on the net that more journalists have died in Iraq in the present time elapsed than in any other conflict in history. Unfortunately, Lunaville doesn't keep track of these casualties of war. Yet Wolfowitz accuses journalists of hiding out in Baghdad and relying on rumor to get their stories.

31. Saw her report from Iraq on Tuesday...
I really wish she'd come home before she gets hurt. She'd slap me down for that statement which is part of why I love her! It would break my heart if anything happened to her though. She's a true hero of mine, and my "trapped on an island with" dream girl.
