can you please stop these stupid south **** envy posts
Ok this is starting to get really embarassing, i cant show du to friends anymore because all the hot topics is generally how the south sucks. What are you freaking cannibals? The south is america too you know, the country you live in?? whether you like it or not there are actually liberals here and great many too.

Its really embarassing im sure the freepers are one big family whether they are from alabama or alaska, and here the northern liberals seem to think its hey ok to just rack down anyone, well if you do think its ok please dont post it, just keep your godly "i am holier then thou" attitude to yourself ok?

Because this is starting to get embarassing. I wish the mods could fix some additional strict guidelines on whats allowed to post and whatsnot quick

1. The South
I agree. Quit with the South bashing. We are all in the same boat and need each other. It doesn't matter if we are from the South or North we have to work together.

2. I agree.
People in the south have Lives That Could Not Suck More, Thanks To Chimpy as well.

The real talking point should be: "If your life sucks, no matter where you live, Look to Chimpy as the cause of the suckage".

On the other hand, I look forward to the day that WE ALL stop hiring mouth-breathing, mental-midget frothers as congresscritters. You know, the people that conduct the people's business like they are mafia capos.

18. I Live In The South And It Can't Be Better
I live in a gated community and on my block is an Hispanic family, an Asian family and an African American family.

I'll bet my block looks more like America than most of the segregated northern cities.

3. Here in New York
I'm more pissed at Ohio than any other place in the nation. They couldn't separate from the freaking grid?

We had a taste of of what it's like in Baghdad only 30 degrees cooler, let me tell you, it is misery.

4. Get Over It!
the biggest problem with the South is not the land but some of the inhabitants who still haven't gotten over losing the Civil War and their enablers who vote Republican because it's the "whites only" party.

14. but that excludes
all of are northern brothers (and sisters) who embrace the aryan nation, the klan and other ugly racist shit (who also fly the confederate flag) and who keep voting for bush and bushlike politicians. For example, here is the hate-group map of particular active groups in my fair state of Indiana: http://www.tolerance.org/maps/hate/state.jsp?state_id=15

Get over it - is a dismissive response - that tries to suggest that the attitudes towards the south in general are justified rather than broadreaching stereotypes that actually can apply to areas and pockets throughout our country.

12. I may not be "northeastern" but I sure as hell am a liberal
And I love the northeast, though people in rural areas seem a bit clannish there too.

I regret having planted the seed for this thing, but part of the problem rests with the shrill, hypersensitive southerners who take offense at any slight, even comments about slash pines.

What is it they say about "two to tango"? It took a hell of a lot of overgeneralizing "south bashers" and thin-skinned, hysterical south-defenders to make this flame war. I suspect it will die down as soon as everyone is thoroughly bored of it. And there really isn't much going on right now, just the usual Bushco looting and fearmongering. And as bad as the south-bashing/south-defending threads have gotten, they're almost a relief from the Kerry/Dean bashing threads, and the threads saying "Bush is going DOWN - Tomorrow!!!!!!!!" or ""We've already lost 2004 - let's slit our wrists" threads.

It will die down, rest assured.

6. Ya know
I agree that some of these threads get us nowhere but I also think that some people learn by argueing. I don't happen to care for it myself but I have learned a few things from reading them and posting when a rational point is reached. Sometimes emotion takes over, this is an emotional board at times and why not? Look at the shit that gets shoved down out throats daily by those unelected monkey boys. I say relax, don't read em if you don't like em but if you can stand the heat read through them and listen, there is more there often than anger.

7. Condemn the actions of some, not the region they're from
Ok, my fellow Yankees. Let's remember that we WON the war.

But I still think it is right for ANYONE to criticize racism, sexism, threats to union organizing, fundementalist outrages, etc, etc. And you'll find that these actions aren't only in the South. I was ashamed to read a thread telling about some church in Greenville MI (where I was born)burning Bibles that weren't the King James Version. (My my, the town certainly went downhill after I left when I was six months old! :)) One of the worst race riots of the early 20th Century took place in Springfield, IL, and many towns in the North had "Black Laws"-laws that made it illegal for African-Americans to be in town after dark.

It may be easier to bash the South because of its racist/intolerant reputation. But in doing that, we are falling prey to a stereotype and engaging in prejudice ourselves.

If you have a specific example of intolerance,or ignorance, keep it specific. Here's an example:

I work in Boone Co AR, and there is an active KKK group in one little town named Zinc. I think the memorial that they made to the Confederate cause is the silliest thing I've ever seen, because, immortalized on the plaque aren't the name of the men who died for the Lost Cause, but the names of the KKK people who built the memorial! It's just one big 'aren't we great' advertisement for them! The only thing they have going for them is that they fly the Confederate flag-the Stars and Bars, not the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern VA, which has become associated with racial intolerance. I think it is interesting that the locals around here are slightly embarrassed about the Zinc KKK people, and prefer not to be around them-but don't mind being around African American people who have come here to work.

13. I don't know whether I qualify as a troll
But I am 100% democrat. If you think that there are no democrats with misconceptions about the south, and no overly proud southern democrats, you're pretty unfamiliar with the party.

16. Some Constructive Dialogue
Bush has such a lock on Southern voting that he doesn't even have to campaign there. We ought to do something about that, even at the risk of some hurt feelings. It's obvious that the Republicans have a strategy to put California in play; why don't Democrats have a strategy to put at least some of the South in play?

Unfortunately, as soon as anybody mentions anything that sounds remotely like a slight on the South, Southerners get defensive. If you post something as necessary as Hey, we've got a problem in the South, there are immediate calls for tolerance, and an end for Southern-bashing. Republicans must love the fact that the original issue never gets addressed. Whether we choose to admit it or not, we do have a problem in the South.

None of the big Democratic states are locked in the way the South is locked into the Republican party. Is there anything we can do about it? We need some constructive dialogue on this; otherwise we'll just continue to lose the South. It's politically very expensive simply to write off a whole region.

Let us at least begin some reasonable discussion of what has to be done to get the South back in play. Do Southern values really map one-to-one to Republican values? Don't Southerners care about the environment? Fairness in taxation? America's standing in the world community? Why is the whole friggin' place so damn Republican?
