Al Franken's book coming out early
we got an email from the publisher that said it was on its way and to keep our eyes open for it.

Hightower's book is also on the shelves. Thieves in High Places, They've Stolen Our Country and it's Time to Take it Back.

And there is a new one on Clinton by Nigel Hamilton (Who's that?). It's only in advance copies but due out next month. Anyone heard anything about him?

2. There's a ton of new liberal books coming out in the next few months
Ivins, Krugman, and Moore are just two more to add to the list. I know there's several others too. The NYT Bestselling chart is going to make it look like a liberal resurgence...which it is, thank goodness!

5. Isn't it already #1 on Amazon?
Boy, what a quandary for the Freeps! Isn't Amazon.com's top sellers list the only "legitimate" best sellers list to them? I mean, since we all know the NYT's list was cooked to show Hillary's book ahead of Mann Coulter's. :eyes:

6. Just checked - THE BIG LIE is #10
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 09:32 PM by JasonBerry
South Beach Diet is #1....but....it should be a great book....Or, wait....were you talking about Franken's book? It should be good too - but it's not in the top 25 yet. Pre-orders can sometimes bump 'em up there, but not yet for Al.

7. Al's was #1 earlier
According to an Al fansite about a week ago, it hit #1 at Amazon. However, it has now dropped to #6.

20. Sold out of BIG LIE...
at my local Tattered Cover Book store. I had to put it on order, where I was 6 in line to get one. That is Joe Conason's new one, isn't it?

As a neat little aside, Will Pitt's Greatest Sedition was prominently displayed on a waist high shelf along the staircase.

9. All due out in September...
Bill Clinton: An American Journey - Nigel Hamilton
Ultimate Punishment - Scott Turow (anti death penalty)
Lies - Al Franken
Smartest Guy in the Room - Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind (Enron)
They've Stolen Our Country and It's Time to Take it Back - Jim Hightower
Hegemony or Survial - Noam Chomsky
The Great Unraveling - Paul Krugman

Plus Molly Ivins. Although they say they are due out in September they will usually be out a week or two before the "due" date. Unless there is a "do not release early hold", the bookstores will put them on the shelves.

I work at a bookstore, I'm supposed to review all of the above mentioned books by September 4, they'll call me when they come in (some might just be advance books) and I'll let you know.

Hightower is on the shelves now, although I've heard it is not so great, I'll let you know, if it's bad we just won't publish the review, we don't trash liberal icons :)

12. the court originally said they would rule end of this week
I've heard nothing since but there is no way they will stop it (prior restraint and the overall silliness factor, trust me, I'm a lawyer who works part time in a bookstore).

And a correction: I should have said the bookstore I work for got the email. Publishing houses are not in the habit of notifying me directly when something happens. :) But the bookstore will call me the second they receive it.

I was reading the Hightower and Clinton books last night. Both are great but I know better than to recommend a book before I've finished it. (Been there, humiliated myself before.)

13. I haven't bought a book in years....read at the book store
But I will surely buy this one. My disdain for FOX news and the FOX cabal is so great, I will spend money to thwart their attempts at propaganda.

19. Looks like the Hamilton book, on Clinton will be great
Had that impeachment succeeded - as it did in the House of Representatives - America might have regressed half a century - as it did in Prohibition. It was Clinton's triumph that, though economical with the truth, he managed to survive that punitive, Victorian process - so reminiscent of the trial of Oscar Wilde - thus allowing America to enter the third millennium as the world's foremost political, economic, social and military superpower.

Clinton's story is thus Homeric. It is also our story. Portions, aspects and features of Bill Clinton's life and career (education, upbringing, political, legal, illegal, marriage, presidency, etc) have been published over the years, but there has been no comprehensive biography that takes his whole lifestory from Hope, Arkansas, to the end of his presidency in 2001. In JFK: Reckless Youth, Professor Hamilton demonstrated how the private life of a charismatic president can be incorporated within serious historical biography that is compellingly readable - indeed showed that, without a knowledge of a president's private life, no modern understanding of a president is possible.

16. I haven't heard one word about Bar Bush*s book,
that was supposed to be out in October, since the original announcement. It's supposed to be a hit piece on everyone who's ever gotten in the way of a Bush, and even includes people like David Gergen. I can't see where this would reflect kindly on her. I wonder if it's been pulled.

I'm glad to see all the liberal books coming out, and the topper will be Bill Clinton's.
